I just installed X11 from the optional install (DVD). Attempted to launch the program and as quickly as it launches, it closes. Reading in the forums, I have already changed the permissions on the /tmp file; (chmod 1777 /tmp/.X11-unix) delete the preference file and deleted X11 and reinstalled. Nothing.

Here is the console log when X11 is launching

XFree86 Version 4.4.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
_XSERVTransmkdir: Owner of /tmp/.X11-unix should be set to root
[DRI] screen 0 installation complete
Screen 0 added: 1680x1050 @ (0,0)
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/, removing from list!

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

O.k., here's the solution: on DVD 1 that came with the mbp, SCROLL DOWN to find the package Optional_Installs.mpkg. Click it, and in it, under Applications, you'll find X11. Install this.
