Hi

First post so apologies if this has been discussed before.

I'm Considering buying an imac for editng HDV footage with final cut. In the refurb store there are 2 identically priced imacs, one with an i7 processor and a 512mb graphics card, the other is an i5 processor but with a 1gb graphics card. Could anyone give advice as to which one is suited better for my requirements.

Thanks

None is better than the other, as FC Express or FC Pro will not take advantage of a GPU in that way, that you see much improvement. Video editing is still CPU based, but FCP/E also can't take advantage of more than two cores currently, but that will change with the next version of FCP, hopefully.

i7

the i7
FCP will use the CPU more, but COLOR and MOTION will use GPU more.

I remmeber using my imac 20" with 2ghz dual core for color correcting in color... in HD... it took the whole night. BRUTAL.

but i7 for sure. the extra ram is more useful for photoshop.
