I have an iPad Pro 12.9 with the Apple Pencil and have decided to start learning to draw with it. I downloaded Procreate since it was only $6. It seems like a cool app. but wanted to know what the more experienced users have to say. Also, are there any good tutorials out there on drawing, effects, etc. I have been helping my daughter draw Disney stuff but I am not limited to that. Are there any products useful for holding the iPad while drawing? Laying it flat seems weird, even though drawing on paper simulates that.

That's a great point about holding it – it only just made me realize how awkward it sometimes is to hold it. You'd think it would be nice to sort of lean over it like it was on a drafting table or something.

I'm not sure I've seen many tutorials for Procreate, but I've seen a bunch on YouTube of people using it to sketch things, and that's another good way to absorb some technique ideas. Aside from that, the single most helpful way to learn that I've seen is just the free downloadable PDF handbook, especially since it's a little feature-rich and some of those features are both useful and hidden. Plus, they've only just added live broadcasting directly from the app, so we'll see whether people use it.

Procreate seems like a pretty competent drawing/painting app, but I've never tried it on a Pro.

Drawing with it propped at an angle would be ideal. That's what the Smart Covers are intended for, but they seem really flimsy and I would go for something sturdier.
