XR has a more deep, almost truer red. 12 Mini has a coral, almost pink-red color.

Which do you like better?

Yeah not impressed. I love red phones, but if I do end up getting a 12, it'll be some other color.

The 12 looks awful. Then again I have an outie not an innie. I may feel differently if it were the other way around.

Oh wow, that's not what I was thinking it would look like at all.

I love the red on my work iPhone 11, likely what the Xr is, but that 12 is a pass for me. And I'd consider a 12 mini in the future. Moot point right now as I only just got a Pixel 4a in August but 2021 or 2022 a 12 series might be in my future when the price drops.

I loved my old Product Red iPod nano, perfect shade.

Devil’s advocate view: I have never been a red iPhone person, but I kind of like the coral color. It was considered when ordering.

That said, I wasn’t in love with any of the non-pro colors, so the 12 mini in black was the default decision.

I had posted this on another discussion and I’ll add it here to help people see how coral on the left, red on the SE2020 in the middle and red on the iPhone 12 on the right look. I have always loved the coral Xr and wished I’d chosen that color.

The red of the SE is just a little bit lighter than the red on the Xr. And the red of the Xr is lighter than the red I had on an iPhone 8 Plus.

Lighter colors do show through better in most clear cases. With darker shades of red, you tend to see more reflection from clear cases and it’s harder to see the true phone color. That being said, my SE was light enough to look really nice in a good quality clear case.

I do prefer the deep true red of my iPhone SE. I traded that phone back to Apple, and will miss that color.

The red 12 is also going back to Apple. I do like the color a lot. It does look like a dark coral in most lighting and matches the citrus pink Apple silicone case very well.

Other than the iPhone XR and the 2nd gen iPod nano, I've never liked Apple's choice of red.

Brighter, fire engine red is one of my least favorite colors, as I think it makes things look cheap. The 12 red is too coral-esque for my taste. (Just bring back the coral, it was dope!) I think they should stick with the deep, candy apple red of the XR.

Long story short, I want Christmas red, not Ferrari red.

THESE ARE THE IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE, OKAY????

I finally managed to find one at Best Buy today (the one on my side of town didn't have a red display unit nor did the local Verizon). But alas: my fears were 100% confirmed. Here it is on top of my work iPhone 11. Hard no.

Shot on Pixel 4a with what appears to be a fairly accurate white balance going off of my hand.

Keep in mind this is also under direct fluorescent lighting at a big box store, so it may look a little more saturated in a warmer tone or outside but still.

I'm colourblind so who am I to say... But anyway...!!

That 12 definitely looks more pink than red to me. Not a fan to be honest.

Definitely prefer the darker, deeper red.

Your Pixel did an excellent job! Yes that is what my Red 12 looked like. I loved the coral color on the XR so I didn’t mind this shade, which was often a dark coral. But it was not as pretty of a red as my SE2’s Product Red shade.

The iPhone 8/XR Product Red are true reds and look fantastic.

It’s a shame Apple keeps changing its tone. Keep the Product Red colour consistent and don’t change it just for the sake of change.
This.
Will never buy any product red device which is not the old dark red.

Definitely prefer my Product Red 8 Plus tone of red than the new 12's version of it.

The iPhone 12 with it seems a bit too light shade of red for my liking. Closer to coral red. Which is OK, but not as nice looking as previous Product Red versions, IMHO.

Any place but here or there....
Love the Red SE 2020* and the XR Red is good too. iPhone 12 is a hard pass. Thanks everyone for posting the 12 images. If I bought a 12, it would be either Green or White.

*The SE reminds me of the Red iPod Nano which I also loved. If there was more Apple gear in deep red colors, I‘d happily jump.

Nothing beats the red on my iPhone 7+. That’s the only reason I still have it as a backup :)
