Doesn't foxconn have a plant in the US?
Isn’t that special! Oh that’s funny. I can’t stop laughing. That was and is fake news. Never believe the word of some politicians. That plant was a ruse and has been canceled

Home? Home where?

Where does that manufacturing infrastructure and labor pool exist in the US? In China that infrastructure was subsidized and developed by the Chinese government investing many billions of $ over many years. As aside, Apple manufactures on the average roughly 200,000 iPhones per day, every day, with that being able to instantly ramp up for new product releases and Christmas holidays.
How much is Apple worth again? They could make it happen and still be one of the most valuable companies in the world. Precedent doesn't make what Apple does OK. They may not have created the problem, but they have the ability to start to fix it.

No they can't. They have investors to answer to. I could see a nice haircut of their stock price if they decide to move manufacturing to US and lower their profit margins. Actually it wouldn't be a haircut, it would be decapitation.
Won't someone think of the investors! Apple is big enough, powerful enough, and influential enough to make real change. Don't defend their BS.

Apple’s greed ... every where ... will probably be what will bring about their downfall.
just curious if you know what line of business Foxconn and apple are in, and what the gross margins of respective industries are?

Are you kidding me? The board will just kick out the idiot who suggests this, even if it's Tim Cook.
I guess you still believe in Santa Claus.

Ok... Please elaborate in detail how Apple would "make it happen." Start by getting an understanding of the massive infrastructure China has developed over decades at enormous costs, and list the extent of that here. And with that as a baseline, show how Apple could "make it happen" in the US.

Absolutely. If Apple's current manufacturing subcontractor is being dishonest, cheating Apple, and not abiding by its signed contract, Apple should engage another manufacturing subcontractor if the one being dishonest is not committed to changing their behavior.

And you're just now realizing that companies are greedy? Walmart, Nikon, Microsoft, Pillsbury, Taco Bell...hell, what about people? Larry Ellison, the Murdoch clan, Sean Hannity...yeah, it's going to destroy us eventually, but calling out Apple seems a bit silly. Take on capitalism. Take on the warped capitalism we have now in this country. Take on all of the companies and individuals who place making money above all else. But 'Apple's greed.'? Just Apple's greed?

I know, short term profits at the expense of long term global entanglements. Doesn't make it morally right, does it?

Of course...greed that would be excoriated on this site if it were any other company other than Apple, will be cheered by the usual suspects here.
so funny. do you know the difference between a company in the assembly business and one that designs, creates and markets finished products? Not greed at all, these two companies are in different industries with different profit requirements. What one should look at is return on investment. How much money does Foxconn make per invested dollar - probably pretty healthy. Remember Foxconn does not design, test, develop, write the software, wok with the telecommunications companies......, they assemble product! I learned this stuff in a high school business class. I could say college, but this is too basic

Apple could try assembling the phones themselves if they don't like the way their draconian business policies have soured relationships with manufacturers

So because it's extremely difficult on the surface it shouldn't be explored? Isn't Apple a pioneer? As another poster stated, they should stop virtue signaling by leaving chargers out of their boxes and work toward real change. How can long term dependence on China be beneficial to anyone but China?

You shouldn't look for morals when dealing with a business. They are not your friends and they aren't in the business to make morally right decisions, no matter how much you wish.

What do homeless people want?
More profit.

What do multi billion dollar mega corporations want?
More profit.

The richest of companies still act like hobos

(I chose the word "hobo" because it's a funny word, not to denigrate homeless people. I've been homeless before so I can use the word "hobo" with authority)

Bring the factory to the United States there are people that factory jobs would suit just fine.

Wow. At least you don't try to hide it, I'll give you that.

Time to manufacture these in America
you know, companies used to. Until the 80s and early 90s when outsourcing and internationalization became the rage. I was against it then because the outsourcing did not use fair international standards like environmental concerns, worker health and safety, pensions,.....It was just a blatant effort to drive labor costs down, by hurting the laborers. What is really funny is that the same people who were pushing it then, and made it happen, are now the same ones who want to "bring jobs back". But it wasn't their mistake, oh no!

No doubt it has been explored.

The solution is to encourage their current manufacturing subcontractor to not be dishonest. If that doesn't work, find another one who doesn't have an issue abiding by its contracts and being honest.

Sound like you don't have an issue with subcontractor dishonesty.

Maybe Apple should use its size and power for good and take a cut in their own profit margins for the purpose of bringing the manufacturing home.
Not just Apple but most large corporations in the USA.
The problem is, they are all buying politicians on both parties to keep "Made in the USA" not happening in a large scale. No wonder working people are suffering and the mighty Empire is crumbling in front of our eyes.

like the Foxconn plant in Wisconsin, LOL that was a big fail. We need manufacturing job growth like we had 2009-2016 again (post 2008 depression of course)
