Hi all, just wondering if there was a program or a setting I could adjust to reduce the clock speed on my Core 2 Duo MacBook.

My goal is to try and reduce the power consumption as much as possible.

    Thanks for any input

I think that when on battery power and set under better performance, one core is shut down right away and the computer operates in 1ghz mode till more is needed. Someone correct me if im wrong, im not exactly sure.

Check activity monitor - displays data for both cores. Both are active when under better battery life mode.

As for the CPU being underclocked when on battery - not sure, it is a possibility.

I believe that would be "Better Battery Life".

Be default SpeedStep will reduce the processor multiplier and the front bus speed will drop as well if it's a Santa Rosa model.

If you install the xcode tools, you get an extra option on "System Preferences" that allows you to disable one of the two cores. I don't know though if it helps with battery life.

That will actually use more power as it pegs that 1 core to the top cpu speed. Let speedstep do its thing when your trying to save power. There is apps out there to do it. Not sure of their name but Google it maybe?
