I'm a iPhone developer and i build an run the App on my iPhone. I'm planning to buy an iPad to use this as the main test device for the iPhone app.
i could install the new ios6 beta on the iPad to test the iPhone app etc.

what do you think, is this a good idea?

What's wrong with using your phone? Don't want to risk the iOS 6 beta on that?

The only advantage I see to using an iPad for development instead of the iPod touch is that the current iPad has a 5MP & 1080p rear camera with focusing, a compass, and when you are ready to do coding for iPad you will already have one. Unless one of those things is within your development scope, buy the iPod touch which would save you at least $300 and a bit more if you buy a refurb.
