Take the test to see if you can distinguish programming language inventors from serial killers.

I got 8 out of 10. That's a little scary considering that I've interviewed candidates for programming jobs dozens of times.

the serial killers were rather obvious, imo.

My wife got 9 our of 10, one better than I got.

But that makes sense. After all, she lives with a programmer and I don't, so she must know them better!

    6/10, and that's why I'm a hardware guy...

(started with COBOL, Fortran (IV & '77), Pascal, and APL. Avoided being institutionalized, but only barely...)

At least none of them were responsible for Perl.

I've written a few programs in APL. I like the language because it's so math-like.

APL is what I call a "write-only" language -- one where it is easier to code (turn thoughts into a program) than to read (make sense out of somebody else's program). It's always fun to stare at one line of code for 15 minutes before you can figure out what it does! Of course, if you are a serial killer, you are probably very good at staring.

By the way, I've met one of the 10 people in this test in person!

Remember, these are inventors of programming languages, not just people who program with those languages. Inventors may be more wild-eyed than even us programmers. :p

    Only seven out of ten.

I need to hang out with more programmers. Or serial killers.

    Or something.

    Though....they look eerily the same........

    Correlation is not causation, hopefully.

Then again, Reiser killed his wife, and made the ReiserFS

You mean that being a serial killer might cause people to become programmers!?

See, I figured that it would be the other way around. You know......those lines of code....they just start telling you to do things..........and you can't help it...

You can't honestly be expected to distinguish anything just from one picture of a person. Fun, though!
