Just having syntax highlighting like emacs or another simpler txt editor would suite me well if it supported... All the c languages, java, some asm, and all the basic web standards (HTML, jscript, php, etc) would be great. Especially if it had some features like more advanced ide's contain. Compiling wouldn't be necessary, as long as syncing to a PC/Mac was easy.

You know, I just realized typing on the iPad reminds me of typing on the Timex Sinclair 1000 back in the day. Only way more awesome obviously, but it is a pity you can do any sort of coding on it.

Lol, I had one of those, with the 16KB Expansion Module. Those were really fun days, just to be able to have a computer.

I don't think typing is the same on both devices. On the TS1000, you had to put some pressure on the key you were typing. On the iPad, a soft touch does the trick. The good thing about the TS1000 was that one key-press would write the whole command. :)

EDIT:

How about a code editor for starters?

I have found an app called Textastic; it has very good reviews, and it's great to write code on. Anyone else heard or has tried it already? Is it worth the $10.00???

I would imagine it would be great for someone who's always on the go to be able to write some code quickly.
And then again, there's also LogMeIn, but if the connectivity is slow, it becomes frustrating.
