Filezilla for MAC - opening the .php files

Hello everyone.

Thanks for the guidance on here but I can't get past a problem I am experiencing with Filezilla.

I recently switched to iMac from my old PC. Now, when I open the .php files to edit them, they show as plain text and not editable HTML code. I do not know how to open them to edit them. All of the online tutorials skip over this section.

This is a problem for me and I just can't work it out.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.
Ianmalkovich.

Use something other than TextEdit. If you have to use it, open the file from within TextEdit with the ignore rich text option on.

Do you mean you want a WYSIWYG editor? Any editors mentioned here were text-based editors. If you want WYSIWYG, Dreamweaver, Muse, and Flux are the first ones that come to mind. I haven't worked in a WYSIWYG editor in years, but someone will probably chyme in to recommend something.

For source code editors, Espresso and TextMate are my favorites too. TextWrangler is one free alternative, though I think the interface in Espresso is worth the money.

PS: Based on the screenshots for Filezilla, I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. IMHO, that is a Windows interface shoehorned onto a Mac. In contrast, this is Espresso (http://macrabbit.com/espresso/).

Netbeans can also edit PHP files.
