wow those homes are so close. I'd be kinda bent about that.

Their property value gonna jump. Lots of rich techies would love to be able to walk to the office.
It's going to be a huge greenspace, park like, and open. Will be some light retail, cafe, etc.

Just a mess during construction. I'd gladly tough it out.

When you consider how ridiculously expensive land is in that area (even what you would call a "modest" 3br/2ba home on a small lot can go for nearly a million), it's mind blowing to think how much money that land is worth.

My guess is that Apple didn't close the sidewalks or erect the perimeter construction fences. That kind of thing is the responsibility of the contractor.
I'm going to venture a guess in that the contractor didn't do all that themselves. They probably subcontracted that job out to a company that rents out fences, and that company's employees put those fences up.

</sarcasm>

No reason to nitpick that type of statement.

December 2016 sounds about right. Keep in mind, the building itself will go up quicker than expected. It's mostly a steel structure, concrete subflooring and windows. Lots and lots of windows. Can't wait to visit it someday.

So, are there any builders here who want to shed light on how you make the foundation level for such a large building, and what are the tolerances usually?

I have watched the farmers in Salinas get their fields perfectly level by using a laser, mounted on a tripod and a receiver on the bulldozer blade.
Drive back and forth and let the electronics get it all level.(and the drainage correct)

The way it read, I had visions of Apple employees in their black t-shirts and name tags building construction fences and setting up sidewalk barriers.

Even the concept of "building a fence" is sort of amusing.

Apple, contractor. Whatever.

Apple pays contractor. Contractor does what Apple says.

Really?

the same way you do it on a small building.. just with better equipment ;)(higher powered lasers along with gps)

the following steel work gives a second chance at truly leveling/plumbing (or— make it possible to work in tighter tolerances).. the concrete though, i'd imagine they're still trying to get everything within an inch or less.. (and tighter in certain areas)

Ah, yes, the obligatory crop-circle phase of any architectural undertaking…

Just think how much money Apple could of saved on taxes because of unfriendly regulations if they have moved their HQ to Texas or some other state that appreciate business. Shame Shame.

A laser level. It;s like a laser pointer that shoots a level been and spins. It makes a level "plane". It is very easy rouse and they sell them even at Home Depot.

The other method works too and I think the romans used it. Get a long pipe or tube. A garden hose works. Fill it with water. The water level at each end is at the same level. You can make the tube as long as you like and it is pretty accurate.

When Toyota did that, they moved their HQ from CA to TX they are keeping all the engineers and marketing folks in Califoornia. They are only moving the business and support people (3,000 of the total of 5,000). GUESS WHY? The very high in demand engineers and marking people would quit to after they found new jobs in CA. Toyota isn't stupid, they only moved the folks who don't have the option to quit.

Have they already dug out and finished the secret underground bunker?

the middle of the circle is probably 75' deeper than the rest.. so, digging it now.

notice there's a much larger outer circle where most of the workers are parking their cars etc.. then the circle road which is the first step down.. then a smaller step up from the road then down into the pit.

What exactly are these "unfriendly regulations" and state's that "appreciate business"? Basically where people are getting taxed more and more while barely making any more money while corporations are given more and more breaks while they make exponentially more and more money? As a person (and not a corporation), it would seem to be more in my personal interest if corporations actually paid more of the taxes instead of me. But we are getting needlessly off topic.

It's coming along quickly. Seems like progress is being made not too long after Steve brought it before the City Council for such a huge project.

SandboxGeneral,

I was thinking of Steve's presentation to the Cupertino Council when I read your post. He was so ill then yet interested in Apple continuing to move forward.

Apple was his passion. It's a good life to do what you love and enjoy some modicum of success doing it.

Thank you for the memory.

I'm pretty sure the property values already did jump the day the project got the go-ahead. So anybody there can easily afford to move to a quieter place during construction. Except renters. Pretty much sucks for them, as rent will inevitably go up, too.
