Speaking of Kickstarters.... the Tex Murphy series has a kickstarter as well. They will be supporting Mac right out of the gate, with iPad as a stretch goal if they get extra funding.

If you haven't seen the Tex games before, they are realtime-3D adventure games set in a Sci-fi dystopia. They have a dialog system that was the precursor to Bioware's conversation wheel, and are about 1/2 dialog-driven investigation and 1/2 adventure-type puzzles.

Even better, two of the best games (Under a Killing Moon, and Pandora Directive) run perfectly in DosBox. So you can go grab them from GoG.com and just swap in the OS-X compliant DosBOX to run them.

If you're interested, there is a liveblog playthrough at http://www.twitch.tv/sbenrap

And the kickstarter itself is an auto-refer from texmurphy.com

If you like adventure games, they are WELL worth your time to check out.

Pandora Directive is pretty awesome, but I think I played Under a Killing Moon at an impressionable age and it stuck with me. When I discovered gog.com, I bought them all instantly.

A lot depends on which kind of story you prefer. UAKM is very comic that gets serious late in the story (but still comic).

Pandora Directive is a much more serious storyline from the get-go.

Tex Murphy! Love the original game. Still got it somewhere. I'll have to dig it out and give it an airing, I think.

I'm actually re-playing it now. It runs great in OS X using Boxer.

I was playing UAKM in a Windows VM, good to know I can play in OS X. Might fire it up tonight!

They play just fine in DOSbox. I kind of went the extra mile and packaged them up in .app bundles with official icons on my machine, though.

Thanks to all the new backers at texmurphy.com. We're over 2/3 of the way there!

I'm playing it in Boxer - http://boxerapp.com/, basically a more Mac-friendly version of DOSbox. You can set up UAKM or Pandora with virtually no setup or tinkering. :D

I'll have to give Boxer.app a try. I haven't heard of that one before.

Just pledged $15 to the Kickstarter. Between Tex and Carmageddon, I have my childhood gaming favorites coming back. All we need is Interstate 76 and Twinsen!

I actually never played the original LBA, only Twinsen's Odyssey. I picked up both on GOG last year. Also, Boxer is working great!
