Sorry to dig up this old thread, but I have to say this sounds amazing. I can't wait for it to come out! It's always pretty annoying to have to install the updates, and then TFF and other essentials. Continue with your great work!
I haven't been able to work on it because I got some other things that take higher priority, but I promise Ill get back to it as soon as I can!Sorry to dig up this old thread, but I have to say this sounds amazing. OK, so it seems to be much more simple than I thought. What "list" are you talking about, exactly? And after you add it, you simply put the package you listed in the packages folder? This post confuses me a bit, please clarify. It doesn't make much of a difference. All you do is add a package to the list, put it in the packages folder, et voila, it will work just fine. For me, it kept stuff much neat. And the new package will override base system files if there are such files in it. For example, if you put system .app files with just an icon inside, it will only override that. No need to mess with Apple packages.
Theres a plist located inside one of the installer packages that allow you to tell it what packages are to be installed and which ones are available to the user to selectOK, so it seems to be much more simple than I thought. Ah, I see. It's much easier than I thought. Thanks!Theres a plist located inside one of the installer packages that allow you to tell it what packages are to be installed and which ones are available to the user to select
That's a great idea, then it would be easier to install on unsupported Macs. Try to keep the requirements reasonable, though; for example, nothing lower than a 500MHz G4 (or maybe 400MHz).You could remove the unsupported macs from the dvd list so that you can install it in older macs.
Better go with 400 MHz. Any dual-processor G4 (those start at 450 MHz) can run Leopard acceptably. That's a great idea, then it would be easier to install on unsupported Macs. Try to keep the requirements reasonable, though; for example, nothing lower than a 500MHz G4 (or maybe 400MHz).
True, I guess anyone who's going to be using this knows what runs Leopard acceptably and what doesn't.dont get the point of having an enforced CPU speed requirement? id let the end user decide what they deem fast enough to run leo on in this case...
Never mind, I found it.Oh, and just out or curiosity, where is this .plist file located? I was looking around and I couldn't seem to find it. Thanks.
In no way i will do thatTo be honest, my help isn't even needed anymore on this project. It was mostly Orizence's idea, and I helped him figure out how to get the installer to recognise and install the custom packages. I explained this in detail to him, so he can continue the project if he wants to. And if not, Henry could still do it if @Orizence allows it.
Or who knows, maybe eventually @SourceSunTom will just copy this entire idea and just release a Leopard installer DVD that installs his theme and rip-off PPCStore with it.
Again, I have heavy moral obligations on continuing this pack myself, but there are other, capable people that can do it, probably better than me too, or it just could get copied for all I care at this point.
Don't worry, I won't quit PPC over this, or never do any more projects, but I definitely will never, ever again collaborate with Tom.
Henry showed me how the store was going to work after he explained to me he was doing one too (I didn't know he was doing one), i have his email and still have his PMs, The market would have been a web view too i :/Actually, there was going to be a "Leopard Market", which would have been a native app to get downloads from the PPC Archive without a browser. The guy that was given that task, Henry, was sadly banned, and after that the PPCStore suddenly appeared, which is fishy.
I have made a breakthrough discovery on how to make the image and have been working on it over the past day or two. I should be able to have a early version available by tomorrow. It'll be exclusive to The PowerPC Archive. Any alternative sources using it without permission is strictly prohibited and will republishers will be prosecuted...
Also, ive gotten permission from Daniel and Henry to do this, and I'd like to take the time to ask the original creator of this idea, Orizence if I can go ahead and release this early version. I still need to work on making packages for apps that don't have installers, and if anyone knows how to do that, please let me know! This release has iLife and iWork 09 included, as well as the 10.5.8 combo update. I'd like to be able to include TFF, Leopard WebKit, and VLC, as well as other requested apps that don't require licensing
