Projector on battery power?

Is it possible to hook up an external display or projector while on battery power? Do you have to be plugged in?

a projector or display has its own power source so i don't think you need to be plugged in to hok it up 😀

Note that at least with the Apple Displays, the laptop must be plugged in if you want to use it in clamshell mode.
