What are the criteria for the promoted threads on the front page? Why, in particular, was this eloquent high quality post chosen?

Aren't those that appear on the Front Page the same as the Trending view in the forums? I thought it was based on the activity level in a certain timeframe regardless of the "quality" of the original post.

Where are you seeing promoted threads? Do you mean the ones on the sidebar of the homepage under "Recent Comments?"
