I keep seeing reviewers or people online incorrectly assuming that ProMotion is more efficient this year since 1Hz is available for the Always-On Display. It’s not. Apple’s own webpage for the 14 Pro models explicitly says that ProMotion operates at 10Hz to 120Hz, meaning that it’s no more efficient or power saving than the 13 Pro series.

it 1hz only for the AOD

Y’all looking for any knock on the 14 to hype up any negative. Just don’t buy it. You not convincing anyone not to with these. You just look like a hater jealous he not getting the new iPhone

I literally have my 14 Pro supposed to arrive tomorrow.

I’m just trying to prevent misinformation from spreading. It’s pretty ridiculous to see reviewers who are lucky enough to get the new iPhone first incorrectly reporting that better battery life is a result of ProMotion going down to 1Hz when it doesn’t.

90% of the complaints on the forum is this. We literally had a guy claim the reviewers hate the new iPhone, while linking only positive reviews.

You're not wrong, but so what? I doubt that this is the deciding factor for anyone buying the phone. Anyone who does their research probably has a good idea of what battery life to expect from it, and I don't see why it matters exactly why they get that battery life. The bottom line is that it should be about the same as the 13 Pro.

I feel like people keep assuming that I’m trying to trash the 14 Pros. I’m just trying to prevent misinformation and to fact check. I literally bought the 14 Pro myself.

I mean I guess it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things, but it just irks me to see literal news websites and known names in the tech industry who are supposed to be trustworthy are publishing incorrect information or assumptions. And then people read that, repeat it on these forums, and it becomes a sort of common knowledge that isn’t even true.

I didn't suggest that you're trying to slam the device, and like I said, I know that you're correct, it's just... no offense, but knowing this isn't helpful.

I disagree. I was looking forward to the M12 Samsung screen going down to 1Hz during normal use. I’ll never use AOD so the display is essentially the same as the 13 Pro in daily use.

1:15:35 - display can go down to 1Hz. Like others have said, in normal use it goes to 10Hz, but it is capable of doing 1Hz.

Would have been interesting to see battery life savings if it did go down to 1Hz. Maybe software locked for a future model.

But why does this matter to you? If you’re just saying because of battery life, my point is that the stats for that have been known since the announcement (it’s about the same as the 13 pro). Knowing that, why does it matter what the low end of the refresh rate is during use?

I’m a bit of an efficiency nerd, and I also do a lot of reading on my phone. If ProMotion could go down to 1Hz on static screens that weren’t AOD, that would be a big plus to me, even if I didn’t see that big of a battery life improvement.

It’s interesting from a tech point of view, at the very least. This is a tech forum.

OP is just clarifying an interesting detail about how the tech in the phone works. On a tech forum.

Thank you for pointing it out and I don't know why some people on this thread are so butthurt. This is a useful information to me. I‘ve just watched a battery test for different IPhone models and 14 Pro ended up performing quite poorly, shutting off even earlier than the regular 14. I had watched many reviews on 14 Pro falsely linking 1hz to Promotion display so I thought iPhone could really go down to 1hz even during the normal use. So I was about to blame the poor battery performance on constantly operating the phone without giving the phone a chance to reduce its refresh rate. But now I don‘t know why 14 Pro tested so poorly. At least other battery tests seem to show different results.
