I’m loving ProMotion so far, it makes everything seem incredibly responsive. But I’ve started noticing that if you scroll a list and let the scroll naturally come to an end, there’s a bit of a judder that can be seen on any text in view just before the scroll finishes. The line of text vibrates slightly.

Possibly more noticeable on light mode than dark. I’m scrolling quite softly, and the text is definitely sharper during the faster part of the scroll than right at the end. It’s like a little blip. Has anyone else noticed this?

I expect it’s just the variable refresh rate coming down a bit sooner than is optimal, but that seems like quite an un-Apple-y thing to say; they’re usually meticulous about that kinda stuff.

Just wanted to check this is normal behaviour and I don’t need to go to an Apple store to check my panel against the display models 🙃

Betcha it’s automatically ramping down from 120hz to 10hz right before the motion on the screen stops.
This could be fixed in software if they want to fix it.

Ah good to know it’s not just me. Yeah hopefully something they can tweak in future, it does just seem like they’re ramping the refresh rate down too early.

Try swiping between HDR photos in the photos app. Mine flickers right when the animation stops.

Call me crazy, but the scrolling seems the same on my 12 Pro Max.

Definitely not the same for me, guess everyone sees it differently, I will never go back to a 60hz iPhone.

It’s certainly different, but IMO now that it’s here, it’s not as big of a deal as it’s been made out to be.

It is for me, best thing about this year pro models.

Turn it off, scroll through the macrumors website, then turn it back on and scroll again, you’ll definitely see a difference.

Text looks horrible when scrolling with ProMotion off.

Yes I see it too. It’s actually quite noticeable. I noticed it’s more prominent in Safari than in apps like Books (but it still happens there).

It’s bizarre because it doesn’t happen on the ProMotion iPad.

I do think it goes to too low of a refresh rate too soon. Hopefully they can fix that with a future software update.

If you mean in apps that’s due to not all apps are running 120hz. Animations in many apps are still 60hz

This has been bothering me from the start. When scrolling slowly small amount at the time and letting go it happens repeatedly. I hope they fix it in 15.1.

I compared this with my Xs Max and it seems like Apple is intentionally making the device feel unsmooth when 120hz is disabled, especially on the Ipad Pro. I compared it with my older devices and it doesn't look the same. Mal-intent?

It’s not super noticeable in regular scrolling. If you want to see what everyone is talking about, hit the search bar in Safari where it shows all your favorites icons. Do a short scroll and take your thumb of quickly then look closely. It’s there
