Proof the AirPods Max case is completely useless

I dropped them and it hit my coffee table.

Yeah I know it was clumsy but mistakes happen and it was in a case which should protect it.

but oh look it didn’t protect it at all. Why did Apple create something so utterly useless?

What a ridiculous thing to say. I am not defending the case, but anyone who is not blind, can see that the case offers little to no protection as there are lots of openings and gaps on it.

Where does it say anywhere that the case offers protection against dropping?

If you are not able to make the simple judgment that the case would offer little protection in this scenario, then I have no idea how you get through life on a daily basis.

It is people like you that are the root cause for all sort of ridiculous legislation and labelling on items as you don't take any responsibility for your own actions

if you're paying a premium price, for a premium product, they should have a premium case, or at least one that will protect them. instead of having to shell out even more money for a case. .

I don’t see why someone would defend this design like some people here are. Apple could’ve easily made the case cover all of the lower part of the headphones, but for whatever reason they leave those cut outs instead.

A case is supposed to be for protection and storage primarily. That’s the way it’s always been - it’s the core functionality of a case for anything ever. The item can look pretty when it’s being used - but why throw out so much protection to make it look ‘prettier’ when in the case (subjective, I think the cutouts don’t affect the aesthetics)?

Lastly, if my airpod pros suffered the same fate as OP’s airpods they would’ve been unscathed, and they’re cheaper. So I think OP has a valid point, the case design is silly especially at the price point the Max’s come at.

The only case that could survive a fall like that onto concrete is something like a padded Pelikan case. Just get something like that. The stock case is just for around the house. A condom isn't expected to do the same job as a suit of armor.

Why is it silly?

Nowhere does it claim, or even appear as though it would offer protection for any drop or mishandling.

it is absolutely clear that this case would never work as any kind of drop protection and it is naive to think that it would.

I can accept all the opinions about whether it is acceptable given the money the headphones cost, but it is what we get and we accept it as such.

Actually yes it is. Apple said the reason its designed this way is because its made of steel so they didn't feel the need to protect all of it. This shows they're wrong.

Well, you didn't get a big scratch like that by dropping it on a feather pillow!

The idea of the case is that it holds it still so you can pack it in a suitcase. It doesn't replace the suitcase. I got a $1200 set of headphones that came with a cloth bag. The bag covers it all over, but it still wouldn't protect against a gouge like you have there.

I was wearing my bullet proof vest and I got shot in the head and it didn’t do anything.

It is literally designed to protect me from bullets and it failed to do so. Look, it didn’t even protect me at all. Why on earth did the manufacturer create something so useless

It is my fault. I fully admitted it was clumsy in my first post. Where did I say its apples fault 😂 I just said its proof its a flawed design.

The design works fine if you aren't a klutz and drop the headphones from a height onto a hard surface. The case keeps your cans from banging against your car keys and other stuff when you toss them in your gym bag. It isn't designed to protect them against abuse.

Yeah, except that’s not how cases are supposed to work. Here is the one for my Sony’s WH-1000XM4. I know whenever they’re in there they’re completely safe….EVEN if I’m a klutz
