proper earphone care

I just recieved my third replacement of vmoda vibe duo earphones, and would not like to go through this exchange again. What do you all do to maintain your earphones? Is there anything in particular that I should do?

If you're worried, you can buy a headphone case to protect them, or I put them in a separate pocket in my purse.
