Proper steps for updated jailbreak?

i'm running 4.1 jailbroken, but i'm thinking of switching to 4.2 jailbroken.

what are the best steps to do this? do i wipe phone, install 4.2, jailbreak, and restore?

Only if you want to jb 4.3.1 tethered.
There's a bunch of posts from other users who want to upgrade/downgrade. They may be using a different iOS or iphone, but the method is pretty much the same.
If you bothered to read this forum first, you'd have found the answer.

I'd wait a week or so for the untethered 4.3 JB instead of going to 4.2.1 and then have the option to go to JB 4.3.1
You will have to install and sync all your stuff back etc...
