I know that on the iPhone 13 Pro and 14 Pro, you need at least 256 GB of storage to record ProRes video in 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps. The iPhone 15 Pro has the ability to record ProRes in 4K at 60 fps to an external drive. Do even higher storage capacities, like 512 GB, support ProRes video recording to internal storage? And does recording to an external drive bypass the 1080p30 limit that 128 GB phones have?

I have the 1 TB and am limited to the same 4k at 30fps for ProRes. Seems a bit dumb considering with 700GB of available storage, I can record 93 min of 4k HDR @30fps. So I figure easily have enough space for 30 min of 4k@60Hz.

Let the largest storage flagship record what they want... (probably on the 2TB iPhone 16 Pro 🙄)

what kind of 1TB drive you have? if it is fast enough and can maintain 220MB/s all the way, you should be good. Also power consumption is the key too. Try to find an SSD that would not draw too much power from your phone - for example, tuff nano 1tb from caldigit.

also you need to make sure you did change the setting in Settings -> Camera -> record video -> change from 4K30 to 4K60

I'm saying with the 1TB storage on my actual iPhone. I should be allowed to record directly to it or partition or set a limit of space I can use.

Instead I can plug in a 128GB thumb drive and record 8 min. Would be nice to use the 700GB available on my phone.
