Just starting to dive into this possibility so I'm curious what the drawbacks might be to going this route.

if you understand that the quality if not as great as a blu ray then it can be good. I use it for older movies that I love to watch over and over. And I try to buy when they are on sale. i don't do high action stuff like the Marvel films cause that quality makes a difference. But comedies etc whats the difference.

Con: The quality is garbage compared to Blu Ray
Pro: It's convenient I guess.

The average person wouldn't even know or care. Really, the difference is marginal. Definitely not ~10x better like the file size difference would suggest.

I purchased the original Apple TV when it came out back in...2007 was it?....and since then I have not purchased any more physical discs. I have not looked back. iCloud/iTunes keeps all your purchases in the cloud, and I can access any of it from any of my Apple devices as long as I have an internet connection, which is always. Maybe if I were flying might be the only exception. I left the backup drives long ago also. Just let Apple do the work for you, it's ok to let go, lol.
