I am looking at purchasing this and the price is about 60% compared to a LaCie or Samsung TB3 external SSD

However, the TB3 cable is hard-wired

What are the pros/cons of this?

Thank you and be well.

Short cable means it needs to be next to your laptop. Might hang from an iMac. No real issue if you have a dock to connect it to. Otherwise it is cumbersome if you actually use your laptop on your lap. There was a TB3 extender cable advertised but I don't see it currently available.

Don't do it. Broken cable means a whole new disk is needed.
I already have aversion to external drives like this whose internal drive cannot be removed easily...

Yeah, I have decided against it

I will stick with my Samsung 1TB USB 3 external drive for Time Machine backups
