I'm not really sure where to post this question. I'd like to find a way to protect certain apps that in order to open them the system should ask me to type in a password first.

Is there anyway to do this?

Some seemingly good advice found on google:

Creating a guest account and locking your computer is the easiest (and I argue, the best) solution but there may be another possibility...

You can create a password protected DMG using Disk Utility and then stick the Mail program (or Mail's Library for your User account, which is where your mail is stored anyway) in the DMG. Then have an Alias in the original location pointing to the corresponfing item in the Disk Image.

In theory, I think it should work, but it's still early in the morning for me, so perhaps i'm missing something.

thanks! I found a much better solution here if anyone is interested.

Just so you know, that technique doesn't really password protect the applications. That only hides them and creates a way to open the hidden application. The application is in no way protected. A person could very easily open the application through other means such as with Terminal.
