It took them 8 days but the eBay auction was canceled as:

"The rights owner, Apple, Inc., notified eBay that this listing violates intellectual property rights. When eBay receives a report of this type of violation, we remove the listing to comply with the law. "

Awesome.

Any other ideas on how to sell this?

The irony of that would be pretty funny but I'm not sure that would work. I'd like this to end up in the hands of someone who will appreciate the unique situation.

Maybe if you go to Apple they want to buy it back from you or exchange for a new one. I mean, if they don't want you to sell it on eBay, despite it is now your property, maybe you can get someone interested in Apple. Why don't you write an email to S. Jobs and see what happens? I'm pretty sure it's not Steve himself who is behind that, but sometimes they come with answers different from those you get from the store or the customer assistance.

I may do that...

The e.mail included an e.mail address of piracy@apple.com which I e.mailed for an explanation but who knows if I'll ever get one. I am going to think about it but thanks for the suggestion.

Nada!

Apple never responded. I wrote a letter to piracy@apple.com and sjobs@apple.com and never heard anything back.

I have been sitting on it, trying to figure out what to do with it. Craigslist here led to a guy calling me and telling me he'd buy it only to drop off the earth. I thought about eBaying it in a 24 hour auction over the weekend to try to elude Apple but I'd rather not have my eBay account disabled.

Still don't know what to do.

In an update, though, it does run Snow Leopard but has a weird stuttery display when it comes to the mouse and keyboard. It's like it's operating at 4 frames per second. It's really weird...

Other than that, it works great.

Thanks for the question, though. If you have any thoughts, let me know.

So whatever happened!? Did you email Apple?

He's wearing an orange jumpsuit in the Appleuvian Guantanamo Bay, for daring to own a prototype and then complain to Apple about their behaviour.

edit: usually handy to reply with such posts before the actual person himself replies!
