Its been more than 10 years of sitting on the side lusting, but I finally gave in and bought my first Mac. I was attending a conference in Seattle last week and I really had no intention of pulling the gun. I did have my mind set on a iPhone 6s Plus 64 GB. Its just the store in Bellevue couldn't seem to keep them in stock or get them at all. It was near time for me to head to downtown Seattle for my last few days. The employees at the Apple store said your best bet at getting an iPhone was to order online at 8 am local time.

My last day at the conference, I did so, but no luck on the iPhone 6s Plus 64 GB Gold model I wanted. In fact, the only model that was showing up was the 16 GB Space Gray. I would have gladly settled for it in 64 GB, I was not going to make that mistake with 16 GBs though. I gave up, gave in and just went with a iPhone 6s 64 GB Gold model. After a few tries, I got my confirmation code. Time was of the essence, since I had to be in the store by 3 PM or 3:30 PM. My meetings were going up to 2 PM and I was in a tight spot, since I would have to walk from my Hotel to the Nordstrom mall. I eventually made it and secured my order.

And so, I officially became an iPhone user. Although this is not my first Apple device, I won a 3rd gen iPod Touch in 2009 on Twitter, but the iPhone has always seemed elusive and just that willingness to wait for the better version that eventually came. Its not the Plus, but I am still happy I have it, the screen is gorgeous, I have not fully set it up yet.

The main event though was my MacBook Pro purchase, like the Plus I wanted the 15 inch, but with further thought and inspection, I realized the 15 inch would be overkill although the 16 GB of RAM and i7 would be nice for virtual machines, not to mention the additional screen real estate. Its just, I would be returning home basically broke and I still wanted to have a little cash on hand for emergencies. I didn't buy it on spot. My second to last day in Seattle, I was in a twist, should I or should I not? I said to myself, I rarely come to the US. Let me just do this and get it out of the way. I got out of bed, took the 550 to Bellevue and walked to Nordstrom and decided to buy a 13 inch, i5, 256 GB model.

Through my work and affiliation with a particular company, I was even able to get a nice discount too. I could not believe it, I was finally an owner of an Apple computer after nearly 15 years of purchasing MacWorld, reading Macrumors and lurking the sites. Its overwhelming so far and I have been familiarizing myself with the user experience on OS X which has changed slightly since I last used it which was my Hackintosh running Tiger 10.4.5 in 2006. I have always had my eyes set on Apple and although I am entrenched in the Microsoft world, I do believe its a different. Its has taken be technically 10 versions of OS X to reach here, but I am here and I am embracing it.

I should mention, getting these through customs was a nightmare. I won a Surface Pro 3 which I used as a decoy and that was able to high that I had these, but I had to pay duty on the phone.

Congratulations! The current 13" retina MacBook Pro is awesome. I went with the upgraded 512GB model, but basically the same config as yours.

Huge congrats!! Last week we did the same thing, Finally made the jump from PC to a 15" Macbook Pro, and couldn't be happier

Thanks, I probably could have jumped on that model, but I think for my needs the 256 should suffice. I need to update it to El Capitan, but I will wait until 10.11.2 is release first and do one major upgrade. I currently have Office 2016 installed and I am not experiencing any of issues that were reported when the suite launched back in September.

Congrats, I too lusted for a MBP for a long time, and broke down this year and purchased an early 2013 MBPr maxed out.

El Capitan is nice!

I wanted the 512GB model to give more space for Windows 10 via boot camp. Otherwise the 256GB model would have suited my needs just fine.

Same here, but I have several machines already with Windows 10, if I am going to Boot Camp, it will be experimental and I will only install a few apps such as Office.

Congrats with your new toy...I would have wanted 512GB SSD because I can have more space to install but 256GB is not enough for me...right now I have only 92GB free space. So Have to use external mobile hard drive to move iTunes folder and Aperture folder over to external hard drive to free up more space on internal SSD drive.

Oooh, you are doing some intense stuff. I know that an app like Aperture would probably use a lot of disk space especially if you are taking high quality photos. Considering that I will likely be doing the same with my iPhone 6s too, I will likely need to be thoughtful with how I capture photos.
