Well, they officially claim themselves as communist while in fact they are not.

----------

China is communist. There is the illusion of capitalism, but the government runs everything.

The government runs everything does not mean that is communism. In communist society, there won't be any private corporation, which is not the case after 1979. Centralization is part of the Asian civilization, which is not strictly related to communism nor capitalism. Sadly most westerners just cannot separate the two...

Now we know whats lower than a lawyer. :)

They should have asked Apple to pay there fee directly!

Yum! How about a Milk Bone too!

Economic system: Capitalistic.

Social system: Totalitarianism.

By totalitarian standards, they are relatively benign.

Yep! Although I would rate them more as a despotic oligarchy, but thats on baseless conjecturing involving the upper party leaders and how true government decisions are made. 'The party' is more or less a charade, of course.

Also they aren't entirely capitalistic, but that's only because there's still a few state-run businesses -- of course it's nothing close to the way the Iron Ricebowl was.

As per the article... big surprise.

A lawyer that doesn't receive the settlement payment then deduct their fee before sending to the client deserves this.

Frankly I'm all for lawyers not getting paid. My experience is they have created a system that sees them getting increasing fees. Brilliant really. But do I care that they don't get paid... no.

I hope Proview does them over.

By the time they sue Proview the money will be long gone. This is really too funny.

Lol

{Snide comment about Proview suppressed}

I can't help myself but to laugh at Proview. They totally deserve this. Freaking idiots.

Oops.

{Hey, I AM from Texas and it's an election year, I can say "oops", right?}

Maybe they should have looked around the room at all the MacBooks when their legal team had their first meeting.

:):)
That's just too funny. But what lawyers are now defending Proview on this suit? :)

A company lies about what it did/didn't sell to Apple and you expect them to be honest about paying you?

Seems Proview aren't completely sure on what the agreement was. Sound familiar?

I imagine it's tough to get a lawyer when you are being sued for non payment by another lawyer.

maybe their contract w/ the lawyers only applied to a 'part' of China :p

LOL...awesome....and these lawyers are surprised? The company got awarded money they didn't deserve to begin with. They scammed, with the help of the Chinese Government.....why would the lawyers believe they would get their cut? The lawyers will probably mysteriously disappear pretty soon.....

Everyone hates these guys, even their own lawyers! :D

Well said, everyone. This is hilarious on so many levels, you couldn't make up a story like this if you tried.:)

So, by definition, China is ironically now a fascist state, at least if you define fascism using the junior high school definition as a political system in which there is a free market but a totalitarian government (although clearly this definition is much debated by scholars who have spent more years in ivory towers than I have).
Sued by your own lawyers? Now that's karma.... !
As is learning that your client, who you defended for not honoring a contract, will not honor their contract with you (again, oversimplified, but they did represent Proview's claim that the contract signed with Apple's shell was not valid).

They're bankrupt. Not greedy.

Apple was greedy for not buying the rights properly.

What would have been the proper way of buying the rights? If by proper you mean Apple making their intentions known and to reveal their product plans while also being charged an exorbitant amount(as was revealed by the Proview lawsuit) then great.

However, the fact that they sold the trademark for much less than they eventually demanded showed what they really considered the value of that trademark to be.

I think Apple's actions reflected their quite correct assumptions about the business practices of Proview.
