 Why don't you just backup your iPhone? When you sync the new one, all of your game saves, etc. will be there....... I've done it many times.

-----------

I've had two iPhone 4's, and neither of them has had the proximity sensor issue.
The poster I was responding to suggested not restoring from backup to resolve the issue. I'm on 4.1 and my proximity sensor still doesn't work right.

Yeah, I still have the proximity problem with my iphone 4.

It's much improved after 4.1 update. But it's still 50% worse than my iphone 3GS.

And my wife has the same iphone 4 and she has similar problems. And she typing on the computer while talking at the same time.

I know what the problem is. Those of us who are "lazy" with our phone. Sometimes I text with my blackberry bold 9700 while talking on the iphone 4 with it held up against my right should (yes I have both Tmobile and ATT service so I do own two lines).

But when I am texting blackberry and trying talk with the iphone 4, the sensors go off and I start pushing buttoms, hanging up on people.

It's a pain in the butt. Because my Samsung Vibrant doesn't have this issue or my old iphone 3gs. Only the iphone 4 has this problem. I have to really concentrate and only hold the iphone 4 right up against my ear for me not to re-activate the sensor.

Mine still has the issue but there's no way I'm losing all my game saves, etc. to fix it if it would even work.

u can restore from backup.. or actually add the files back into a new backup of things you want.. (its easier if your device is jailbroken).. but i used an app called ibackupbot.. first i restored my phone.. and then created a new backup.. i then went into the previous backup and got all my saved game files and text messages and inserted them into the new backup.. and in ibackupbot their is a restore from backup button.. After everything is done.. Everything works...

You are basically making a new backup with only the things in it that you want

Why yes, I do have a phone w/o a proximity sensor. It's a Samsung SGH D900i, also a Sony Ericsson K700, as well as a Touch Diamond 2....oh oh HTC magic, and Nokia N95 and 82 :p

k no seriously though, my iphone 4's prox sensor is pissing me right off, it would turn on so often, and I have a number of facetime requests with people while I'm on a phone call. It's really pissing me off and I'm hearing there's been a fix for it in 4.1, but I have yet to upgrade...I think i will upgrade tonight, because this prox issue is pissing me right off. My 3G and 3GS never had these issues, wonder why iphone 4 does... :S

Not gone away, but improved.
Same here, on both mine and my wife's phones (4.1). They both still randomly switch to the keypad and dial digits, mute callers, attempt to connect via Facetime, etc.

I've taken to closing the call screen with the home button and opening the calculator app while I'm on calls. Shouldn't have to do that to have a phone that works properly, but at least I don't get all the weird proximity sensor antics.

I highly recommend checking out the "when was your iphone 4 manufactured?" thread.

I had proximity issues with my original week 30 phone and the replacement 5k34. I did a restore to new phone with 4.1 on the week 30 phone and it didn't work. I've had another replacement (5k40) for about 4 days and I haven't cheek dialed anyone yet. I have noticed that the proximity sensor is visible when I'm on a call, which I didn't notice on the other two phones.

I didn't have the problem until I upgrade to 4.1. I waited a long time before I did the upgrade fearing that I would inherit problems and I did. This phone now has epileptic seizures when I try to talk on it.

That's what happened to me too. My iPhone shipped with 4.0.2, and I didn't have any issues with the proximity sensor until I upgraded to 4.1.

My 4 had this problem, but it didn't bother me much, it was very rare. And my husband's phone had it too, more than mine. After the 4.1 update, my iPhone is completely cured, but my husband's is much worse. Now he mutes me almost every time we speak several times during a single call, unless he uses headphones.
Both are week 27 phones.

We have 3 iPhone 4's, purchased at different times, and none of them have the proximity sensor issue. The first two were purchased about a month after release and didn't have it. They have iOS 4.1 on them now, but didn't have the problem before that. The 3rd one was purchased about 2 weeks ago and came with iOS 4.1 loaded already. It does not have the issue either.

Sorry you have the problem, but I guess I can prove they all don't have the issue.

I bet I can cause the issue on all 3 of them. It isn't the phones themselves, but some type of variable of how certain people hold it, or the depth of their ears, or something of the sort. I can cause it on every single iPhone 4 I've ever tried it on.

For the first two months, I had the proximity issue. Although mine was a little different. While touched to my face, it would go blank. But, if I needed to put in numbers, it wouldn't work and just stay blank. Then, after a few minutes, it would come on and be fine. Jeez was that annoying. For some reason, I no longer have the issue. Also, I have not upgraded to 4.1 (mine is still on 4.0.1). Once in a while, when I press the ipod icon, it will show no songs (sometimes no content). However, my memory still shows the same amount as when the songs do show? If I'm at home, I can sync it and it shows all content. Unfortunately, when I'm away from a syncable computer, it happens more often.

I also have never had the proximity issue. Not before 4.1 or after. My wife had it every once in a while before 4.1 but not since then.

I'm in Canada and have had my iphone 4 for two weeks now, it was manufactured in week 42. This issue had me nervous reading about it, but after 12.5 hours of talk time there hasnt been even the slightest bit of an issue. I've even tried my hardest to reproduce it by moving the phone around my ear while talkng, but nothing, it's rock solid.

I sympathize with those that have this issue but I can not repproduce it.

Easily the best phone I've ever owned, an amazing package.

Mine had it

Took my Iphone 4 back to Apple store couple days ago just could not handle the proximity issue. Guy I dealt with at Genius bar looked at it and said I dont have a problem replacing it and gave me a new one so will see how this one does only had it a couple days but seems fine. Also noticed on this new one that the screen does not seem to be as sensitive when typing. I have typed on an Iphone for years now and that last one was horrible . The new one seems like my older Iphones when typing.??
