Good for you.. no one cares.

"I'm fine" sounds like an answer to me. What do you want? Would you like him display his results from his last physical on the projector?

I agree, maybe he just doesn't feel that he needs to detail his personal life. I thought it was a courteous question but not necessary. It was a press conference, not coffee with friends.

So what happens, if, when I'm waiting for the software fix for the proximity sensor, my 30 days lapses? Then what?

Shall I return it now just in case?

PS answering every complaint with "if you don't like it, return it" doesn't help much.

I went to the Apple Store twice to express my concerns with the proximity sensor. The second time around the Genius put in righting that if I don't have my proximity sensor fixed with the update, then I can return my phone for a free replacement. He even noted the condition of my phone as "new," which leads me to believe he did this so that I get a new phone and not a refurbished one when and if I return my phone.

That's what I did. I returned one, waited for the subsidized upgrade availability to post back to my AT&T account, and bought another one. The Apple store gave me a new SIM for my 3GS and reactivated it when I returned the 4.

I've yet to experience the maddening issue on the replacement.

Steve is the CEO, not the engineers that I am sure they compensate quite well. He didn't need to be in the lab with them 24/7.

Saw improvement...

I saw improvement in the 4.0.1 update in the Prox sensor handling... but maybe I was just dreaming?

To me, this is the biggest issue (the reception issue is easy to work around), the prox sensor issues are annoying. But glad to hear it will be officially fixed.
:D

related to 3gs config on iphone 4

I was able to resolve my problem by setting up my iPhone 4 as a new iPhone, redoing all of my settings. This is a gaint pain in the a$$, but I haven't had the problem since i did it.

Unfortunately, you loose ALL of your settings for every application.

Oh Well. It's probably not a bad idea to set up a new config on the new phone anyway. Who knows what kind of config crap got transfered over.

He said he was fine, what more do you want him to say? What bothers me more is that he said this:

" I’m fine! I was on vacation in Hawaii, but this was important enough to come back for. I’m fine."

Then 20 mins later he says this:

"... we’ve had cots in the labs, cars in the parking lots all night, we’ve been living here."

So he was in hawaii while they were "living at apple"?

Dawg do you really think that if you were one of the richest people on earth you would be living at the apple head quarters during this so called crisis? No you would be about 4 hours away in Hawaii because you could do that. You would be using FaceTime to contact your key people and get the job done.

I just did a proximity test and I have no issues. I will try on some other phones in the office...

To anyone having this problem...don't try doing this. It doesn't fix anything. I did it. It's a pain in the ass. You lose game saves on your apps and it's time consuming. People that think this works probably realize it actually doesn't a couple hours after posting about it working when they're on a phone call for longer than 5 minutes and they get off and realize they've been texting someone else with their cheek. This is most likely a problem in all iPhone 4's and will almost definitely be fixed in a software update.

Happy with the acknowledgment and pleased to know they'll have a fix. End of story for me unless it doesn't work.

Yeah, no kidding, he is relaxing in HI while his people where working the mad hours, eh? Reminds me of when I talk to people that mention their vacation homes...... rich much?

He's the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company, i highly doubt there is such a thing as a pure "vacation" for someone at his level. I'm sure he logs more actual hours than most of his employees whether he's in the office or not. Additionally, unless steve himself is an engineer with expertise on antennae design or whatever, he doesn't need to be "sleeping in a cot" at the apple offices, he would just get in the way of the real experts who are getting the job done.

A few remarks.

So... I've replaced my phone twice, tested my girlfriend's phone, and corroborated with maybe 2 other people who own the iPhone 4. They all have the same issue with the proximity sensor, I just think they don't expect more from their phones or blame it on ATT.

When you take it to the Apple store, they put their finger over the sensor, remove it, repeat. When they see the sensor going on and off, they say, "Well, it looks like it's working to me." That's not how you reproduce the problem. Here's how I ended up describing it to Apple Care:

First, go into Settings -> Brightness -> and turn off Auto Brightness. If you have auto brightness on, the phone will use its ambient light sensor to change the brightness, gauge that it's in a pitch black room because you've covered the sensor, and keep the screen as dark as possible without turning it off.

Now—Take the phone, press the receiver against your ear — you can even press the whole phone against your cheek as you normally would. Slide the phone around your ear without allowing the phone to break contact with your ear. If you keep doing it, you'll be able to see the screen come on and off with your movements. This happens consistently on every phone I've gotten my hands on. People simple don't know they're doing it, and they're used to blaming dropped calls on antennae, service providers, etc.

—now I don't want to hear any of you say, "You shouldn't put the phone flat on your face...that's not how to use the phone, so of course you'd press buttons with your face." The phone has a proximity sensor on it, for christ's sake. If it doesn't keep you from pushing buttons with your face, then what the hell is it for?

Hopefully, my description of the problem will help them diagnose reproduce the problem. I encourage everyone to call AppleCare with all of your issues as soon as they crop up.

+1.

And *that's* the kind of time-buying good customer services gets you. A sigh of relief from your consumers, reassurance to them that their faith is justified, which in turn can result in even more brand loyalty. No doubt the antenna fiasco could have benefited from more of this.

This has been a pretty persistent problem for me. Glad it got some attention and now fix it please

And you know what the fix is going to be? New bumper! It will have a flap panel that users will have to use to cover the sensor before they make a call. :D

Proximity is the issue. It was a given in Verizon's "there's a map for that" ad. If proximity isn't the issue, then how do you explain the inaccuracy of those location based apps? lol. I shouldn't known.

I hope they address the Bluetooth problems too.....very strange bug.

how long did it take for your upgrade availability return to your account. i am thinking of doing this because of my sensor (already replaced once) and because my battery seems not so great. i'm only getting around 5-6hrs of usage, but apple says its "normal" according to their tests.

probably dreaming. i still have an issue w/ the sensor after yesterdays update. at 1st it seemed better, but the more i used it, i realized that the problem is definitely still there :(

finally!!!

awesome the days of muting people while on a phone call are close to an end!!! :)

This issue is getting bad!

Calling people at 11pm.
Putting callers on hold.
Putting myself on mute.
Hanging up on people.

This issue is serious!
