Should the sensor be activated when I am not on the phone? If I wave my hand over the top of my phone it will turn off the screen. I thought it only did that when you put the phone to your face during a phone call.

I’d assume This to be the expected behaviour. Although, not doing the same on my phone.

I don’t think it is. Playing video games horizontally would not work and my kids do that all the time.

Have you tried to hard reset? This sounds a bit weird.
