I have the 40GB model PS3 (PAL) and today, after updating GTA IV to version 1.04, the thing died.

I was playing a Deathmatch, and after a kill, everything froze... the disk was making a jerking sound.

After restarting by holding power button, no disks will read in the PS3. I've tried 3 games, 2 CD's and 4 DVD's...

I guess it is the laser? Didn't we have this trouble with GTA IV on release week?

Backing up now, it's a week before end of warranty...

I think you need to call Sony before your week expires....that sounds like the Blu-Ray drive died out on you.

Call Sony
They'll send you a box
You send it to them and in a few days you should have your PS3 back.

Bless

Happened to me a while ago....called sony, they sent some guy in a van, he took my PS3 and handed me a new one 😀

All within 5 working days of me calling sony

It's all true.

You guys were right. I called Sony, they're sending me a PS3 in a pink box, via a guy in a van.

3 day turnaround, but only because they were low on pink boxes or it would have been next day.

That's made my day.

Just thank your stars you don't have the 60GB NTSC units (like me), if those bastards break it'll be hell trying to get Sony to fix them properly (BC ftw)
