I have read the other threads on this subject but I am still confused, so please do not just post use Mroogle or something like that. I am planning to buy a PS3 what cables do I need to buy. So from what I have read I would have to purchase a DVI to HDMI cable and an HDMI cable to connect the PS3. Am I right. I have an iMac 27" 2010. Please help.

You need an hdmi to minidisplay converter. The minidisplay to hdmi ones are like 2 bucks, but the hdmi to minidisplay are like 200 bucks.

Belkin's AV360 and the one converter DrBott sells. I'm surprised you couldn't fine a reasonable answer on mroogle.

What does the iMac have a HDMI, DVI, or something else I am confused. All the post in Mroogle were old and many of them had turned into conversations halfway through so finding the clear answer was difficult.

The iMac uses minidisplay-- hence why I said minidisplay in my post a couple times.

It is, yes. Are you wanting a ps3 to connect to the iMac to actually use the iMac as a TV, or are you doing it just for recording purposes?

Either way I'd probably get a 30" hdtv or other similar monitor that has an hdmi port for the former and an hd-pvr for the latter.

I am planning to use it as a TV not to record. I will probably use the converter since there probably is not a good hdtv 27in for the 150 dollar price point.

Thanks for helping me out. Sorry I am not the best person to talk to about tech things.

Yeah, this won't be an issue when Sony equips every PS3 with a displayport or mini-displayport connector. I wish!

    From Apple:

The Mini DisplayPort lets you connect an external display, including the Apple LED Cinema Display, to your iMac. On the 27-inch iMac, the same port offers input, too. So you can connect any external source that has DisplayPort output — including a MacBook or MacBook Pro — and use your iMac as a display.

So it should support the native display as long as you don't go through a converter.

    Cheers,

As I understand it: For technical reasons the imac can only take in a signal of 720p or 1440p. If you wan't 1080p you have to buy a box that goes in the middle which upscales the 1080p to 1440p.

When confronted with this problem with my PS3 I just bought a dell u2711 to play games on it and use it as another monitor. It arrives tomorrow.
