I open PS3 media server with my PS3 turned on (both my macbook and the PS3 are connected to the same router, a linksys with tomato), and ps3 media server says it cannot find anything...

I'm trying to enable port forwarding if that will help but i don't really know what i'm doing.

Both devices are on the same network. Do NOT enable port forwarding. Rather check if the firewall is switched on, on the mac. If it is either add the port/port range to the incoming connections list or switch the firewall off (not preferred).
