Thats fine, but some people dont need or desire to pay $50/yr just to talk to people in other games.
1 - If you pay $50 for Live, you should shop around more. I've never spent more than $35. But also to play "Devil's Advocate" here, some people don't need or desire to pay $50/year just to rent access to some games.

2 - You're right. Not all people need that. I'm not speaking for everyone. And again, I would love it if it were free. But it isn't. Until it becomes free, I'll gladly spend that crucial $3 a month for the simplicity. The way you can find, talk to, and join up in-game with friends on XBL is excellent, in my opinion.

No. But it is a great additional feature for online play. Every since the new party system update, I can hop online see friends in a party playing a game ( at least some of them, others are often playing another game entirely ), hop in the party, and ask for an invite for the game they are in. Incredibly simply & practical. It's also kind of cool that we can be in a squad in Battlefield, while some other friends are at the same time playing as a team in NHL.

That is just a great feature to have when all of your friends don't play the same game, or you have enough people to play 2 different games, and not upset either game by communicating just amongst yourselves. That's an important part of online gaming, is that ability to keep in touch with friends, especially thru gaming.

Well I just spent €50 on steam and got 25+ games for both my mac & pc. Think that represents much greater value for money than the dross psn+ offers.

Oh and in Ireland the choice of stuff you get access to is even more dire than the USA.

Sony Europe (which I think Ireland is apart of) is giving out a free copy of Little Big Planet (free as in beer) for signing up for a year subscription. You guys also got 2 game trials, what I assume is free DLC (KillZone 2), and 2 dynamic themes. That's MUCH better then what US customers got.

I wouldn't mind paying Hulu $10/mo, but I don't want to have to join PSN+ just to get access to Hulu's service (thereby making it more like $14/mo).
Didn't see this posted earlier, but it has now been confirmed. If you want to watch Hulu on either your PS3 or 360, you will have to be a PSN+ or XBL Gold member. So, that sucks. I hardly ever watch Hulu, but that does suck for people who were hoping for it to not have these restrictions....

Hulu Plus on Xbox will be a 'custom experience', restricted to Xbox Live Gold members

Hulu Plus on PS3 will require PlayStation Plus

Thanks for the update. How did I know Sony/MS were going to screw this up ? Hopefully Hulu+ will come to AppleTV and I can seriously consider ditching my $100/mo satellite service.

I joined. I figured, it's $50 for 15 months right now, free games and other stuff for a year, and if I don't like it, I just won't renew. And it's new, so it has time to get better.Wipeout HD is pretty good, but I wish they gave something other than a racer, since I'm hooked on Modnation Racers right now. I still like Xbox Live better, but they charge the same thing for a lot of what the PS3 gives for free. And since I don't use cross game chat, it's no big loss for me.

Just bought a ps3 and gonna sign up for 3 months for £12

That gets me wipeout HD and classic destruction derby. Also next month I get the classic psone game Medievil.

One hour trials are a bonus of random games.

I'll get my use out of it I think.

Nope, I won't get it. I don't play that much anymore plus I never download anything from PSN Store so only interesting feature is cross game chat which I would use twice in a year anyway. As long as they keep online gaming free, I won't

If it made all psn games 50% cheaper then yes. The fact it's up to 50% on selected titles which equates to 'the dross you would never buy even if it was 50% off' means NO I won't be wasting my money here Sony.

Can not see any real discernible advantage at this present time.

Second this motion

No. And I can't believe how pointless the service is, and why can't they have auto-updates as a free feature? So bad.
