I'm no hardcore gamer by any means but I was curious if it would make more sense to put Windows on my Mac (MBP 2011 15") or just get a PS3. It seems most of the games I'd want to play that are only on Windows are also on console. I'd rather not have to fuss with Windows and the advantage of the PS3 is that I get a Blu-ray player too. Any thoughts on what might make more sense?

Go the ps3 for sure. You are correct. Bluray player +1, media hub +1, played on a larger tv, video rental service, music video service, etc etc

I just find gaming on a consol a much better experience. :D

I have both set up at mine and the PS3 is a much better option imo.

There are pros and cons to both. It all depends what you're expecting from your gaming experience. I have a PS3 as well as an Xbox 360. I've also got experience in PC gaming although it's been a couple of years since I last was into that. Certainly there are advantages to both.

Console gaming is a lot more straight forward and as all are equal you know the game will work. The games are a bit more expensive in general and in many cases lack some of the features their PC counterparts have. PC games offer higher resolutions, mods, often larger multiplayer maps, more players in multiplayer and generally a more feature rich gaming experience. They also can present compatibility and installation headaches as well as the need to regularly upgrade the hardware.

If you're not a hardcore gamer and what a generally light but fun gaming experience a console would be a better choice and a PS3 in particular. If you want a more feature rich, higher quality experience and don't mind the headaches and frustration of PC gaming as well S being a serious gamer then a Windows PC would be a better option.

I prefer using a PC for gaming, but that's because all of the games I'm interested in are only available for the PC (or the Wii), and the games I'm really not interested (first person shooters, all that) are for the other consoles.

That's all it really comes down to in the end, if you want the games available for it or not. In your case, since the games are available for both, I'd go with the PS3 for the games & Blu-Ray player.
