Compared to general design aesthetics. The Anker Cube for example is vastly uglier than say a Belkin 3-1 charger. Rounded designs are often consider softer and more appealing than square designs which are considered sharper and rougher.

One of the reasons vehicles like the cyber truck and older squared Samsung phones aren’t considered to be attractive.
Have both and both have their place. The Anker Cube is awesome for traveling and compared to the Belkin 3-1 nice and small for your night stand too. Everyone I recommend it too love it. But, also recommend the Belkin 3-1 too. And don’t think the Anker Cube is ugly at all.

what kind of customer service is this, for the US? Not only no refund, but leave the recycling to the local authorities?

I've liked Anker in the past, but going forward - no thank you
Just means Chinese consumer protection laws are stronger than the US protections.

Consumer protection in the USA? Ha! What is that?!

Exactly. US customers have had the minimum protections and even less today.

The US trade-off to heavy regulation is the class action lawsuit. Unfortunately for consumers (or fortunately for corporate mistake-makers), public opinion is fairly negative when it comes to that relief mechanism. Think of the last time ‘you’ saw a press release that made ‘you’ eligible for a payout… you can imagine the common reaction.

The difficulty here is pursuing the class action award against a company from certain foreign countries in the US. Some foreign companies hold no major US assets (and hold few assets in jurisdictions that will honor a US award).

Cheap Chinese junk that rarely has proper safety certification especially for North America. Had a couple chargers and one usb hub from them over the years. Chargers got super hot and hub stopped working. UGREEN is even worse.

What do you expect of two companies that came to prominence by white labeling.

You really think they would do an expensive recall of millions if there wasn’t a chance that Anker would be forced to issue a recall. They’re spinning it like they’re doing it out of the goodness of their heart.
Yup. All that abundance of caution language is textbook PR for a recall. They know they’re in deep doodoo. Will probably get sued too.

Said it before, Anker stuff is not only ugly but cheap YouTuber junk.
That's absurd. I use multiple Anker products. They look quite fine. And I've never had a single issue with any of them.

Regarding recalls, do you have any idea of how many recalls there are across all kinds of products? Strollers that are poorly manufactured and can injure a baby. Car recalls. Almost daily food recalls. And on and on and on. It's the cost of living in a world where money dominates and motivates almost everything. If everything in manufacturing is done properly with extreme care and diligence, there would still be mishaps.

I'm so thankful I don't fall prey to the hatred and hysteria and irrationality that motivates many of the comments here.

Power banks tend to be sold by small or no name brands where I'm skeptical they would even issue a recall or look into reports of their batteries catching on fire which certainly exist. While faulty power banks aren't good, I wonder if Anker issuing recalls at all makes them stand out as one of the better power bank companies out there.

What other brands are considered good for power banks? Ones that didn't ignore reports of batteries catching fire or somehow had literally 0 cases of fire, melting, etc. that weren't caused by user abuse.

I have several Anker batteries but the S/N cannot be read.
It's black on black, microscopic, and scratched by normal use...

Recall after recall… I thought about buying items from them, specially those cute chargers and cables with LED faces, but the monthly recall always reminds me to not buy them.
In my opinion, this is a gross exaggeration and very misleading. Recall after recall happens with many different companies and products. Food, drugs, cars, and on and on. Anker has a better track record than most. I have about 8 Anker products. They look good and function well. Never had a single problem and none of them have been recalled.

I had an old PowerCore 10000 that was part of the recall. I'd had it rubbing against things in my backpack so long that the model and serial number were no longer legible. I contacted Anker support with photos and was able to get the gift card within a few days. Note, they initially told me that if you selected a replacement product, it was not expected to arrive for several months, so if in doubt, you might be better off taking the gift card.
I have the 20000. Still works great today, I have two of them actually even though I rarely use them.

Is that the same Anker who is a sponsor on this site? The same Anker who buys articles to tell readers about sales? That Anker?

(For the record almost all of my charging bricks are Anker)

I could apply that irrational thinking to any company that issues a recall. So many people make an absurd guess and broadcast it as the truth. How sad.

Damn. I was hoping they recalled my PowerCore Slim 10000. Ever since Apple switched to USB-C, it’s useless. The USB-C port on it is power input only so it doesn’t charge my 15PM. 😔
