Don’t buy an iPad now because there is a new one coming next year? Are you kidding me? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. In that case no one should ever buy a new iPhone cos there is a new one next each year. Seriously wow…
relax bro it’s not that deep

The mini is my go-to device. From the rumors it sounds like I won’t be needing to upgrade, but I’m excited to see what is coming.

I love the Mini LED 12.9, but it was a bit unwieldly travelling, car/airplane. I have the mini 6 and I'm not in a hurry to change. The portability is insane and the screen is so much bigger than the pro max phone.

Chuckled over the lede:

”If you're in the market for a new iPad, you might want to go ahead and hold off.“
If you're in the market, then “going ahead” would mean buying it!

Much better stated as:

”If you're in the market for a new iPad, you might want to go ahead and hold off.“
As to the earlier advice in the thread, better than “buying it if you want it“ is buying it if you need it!

We're barely 2/3 into 2023. For all we know the new iPad Pros could be available in May 2024.
That title is ridicolous.
The whole "wait, don't buy a new XYZ" thing by tech influencers in general makes me cringe.
Guess there's a market for this kind of content, but sometimes the concept is pushed to ridiculous extremes.
If you need the most powerful iPad money can buy, the convenience of FaceID and maybe a LIDAR, go buy an M2 iPad Pro now.

If you're in the market for a new iPad, you might want to go ahead and hold off. Apple hasn't introduced updates to any of its iPad models in 2023 so far, and rumors suggest that refreshes aren't coming until 2024.
So do I go ahead or do I hold off? I don’t usually comment on writing, but that is one convoluted sentence, where it would have been clearer and easier to simply use the standard “you might want to hold off”.

Unless you get paid by the word, then you could have used “you might want to not go ahead and instead hold off”. 😃

Edit: Saturn007, I checked to make sure no one pointed that out already, but I guess you were typing it at the time!

I bought an M1 iPad Pro end of last year on discount and I’m thrilled with it. Zero need for the M2 and everything runs smooth as butter. An M3 will be amazing but it will do nothing to improve my performance expectations.

I just got a new in box 12.9” 2tb m1 WiFi model for $999 and it is plenty fast. New iPad of that capacity will be over 2x price.

I'm glad I got the iPad Pro 11" back in Nov. 2018, just got its battery replaced this Feb, so technically it's a brand new iPad Pro 11" 2018 model. Let's pray it gets another four year OS support :D

My first GEN iPad Pro battery is about gone so I am ready to buy as soon as the next model appears.

I think I have the 2020 one and it flies like brand new. Not sure what more could be added.

At this point, I think software is the bottle neck as my MacOS is so much more capable than this glorified smartphone OS. Good for consumption, not creation.

I am about to replace my Smart Keyboard with a Magic Keyboard. I wonder if it will be compatible with the 2024 iPads?

Frankly except for niche uses, I’d recommend against buying an iPad in general.

Poor value and functionality. Unless you’re looking for a solid e-reader or something to draw on, you may as well spring for one of the MacBook airs.
For e-reading you can get by with much older models.

MacRumors videographer Dan Barbera recaps all the latest iPad rumors in his latest video, so watch that to get an overview of the current status of each iPad.

Basically, iPad Pro, iPad mini, and iPad Air refreshes are coming in 2024, so if you can hold off on buying a new tablet, you should. This is especially true for the iPad Pro, because we're expecting a major overhaul soon.

OLED displays are coming to new 11 and 13-inch iPad Pro options in 2024, plus the tablets are going to get Apple's latest M3 chip with more power and improved efficiency, so it's worth waiting.

As for the iPad mini, it hasn't been updated since 2021, and the iPad Air has been around since March 2022, so both are on the older side. The standard iPad was refreshed last year and Apple has thus far updated it every year, so it's the one tablet we might possibly see updated in 2023, though rumors have said nothing about it.

Unless you have an urgent need for an iPad or come across a great deal, it's worth holding out for updated hardware at this point. For more on what to expect from future iPads, check out our recent rumor recap.

Exactly. Meanwhile, every few days for the next several months, MacRumors will publish articles with affiliate links to sales on Amazon for these very same iPads we are being told not to buy. 🥵

I could see saying hold-off ( for a moderate upgrade) if it was out two months, but 6 months?

Almost like clickbait.

Is AI writing this stuff?

If you “need” an iPad Pro then the current ones will do just fine and getting a good deal now or Black Friday will probably be better for most people.

Agreed. The percentage of folks who do something so processor intensive on an iPad that the M2 chip in the current Pro is not going to be "enough" has got to be a vanishingly small number. I think my 2018 iPad Pro with M1 chip is still more powerful than my PC laptop that work gives me.
