It's like you didn't even read my post. All I did was break down the numbers for my TWO-YEAR CONTRACT.

There was no "complicated system". All I do is renew every two years, JUST LIKE YOU.

That's not what the rest of us pay.

My family pays about $260 for 4 lines. It's something like this:

4 iPhones access: $40x4=$160
iPad and Mifi: $10x2=$20 (guessing here, not exactly sure what a mifi costs on current plans)
6gb data: $80 (might be less on a Share Everything, not sure)
Taxes and fees, subtract employer discount for my dad.
Not to mention those 4 iPhones were either $99 or $199 up front.

If we were to get a new plan:

2 iPhones off contract: $20x2=$40
2 iPhones on contract: $40x2=$80 (based on how our plan currently is; one is a 4s that goes off contract soon and the other is a 5s purchased in March)
iPad and Mifi: $10x2=$20
6gb data: $60
Taxes and fees minus discount
Total: $200 approx
Saves us $60 with how our plan is now. The big different being that there's a difference in contract and off-contract price. I know there are discounts now, but I don't think my dad has bothered adding them.

Nobody said the rest of you paid that. If you look at my post, I was clear that I was speaking only for myself. There are customers on plans that are no longer available because they were older and/or promotional at one time. Those older plans save the people who have hung onto them a lot of money. Because of that, you can't speak broadly in terms of how much people are paying via contract versus device payment.

I'm clinging on to an older More Everything Plan, but because it's still a MEP it makes sense to go onto the DPP since I get the line access discount. Overall, it's an additional $15/month for the phone I'm getting (6s Plus, 128GB) which breaks down to $360 instead of $499.

I'm not even going to bother throwing sales tax in to the prices because in California, no matter what, we pay tax on the full price.
