That is a complex allegation... and I would suggest applying a mixture of Hanlon's Razor and Occam's Razor.

Certainly a "form" of malice is far too easy to believe in this kind of user hostile change... so Hanlon's Razor doesn't fully apply. But with Occam's Razor, we find that we must seek out the simplest form of malice which adequately explains these actions. In this case, greed more than adequately explains away Meta's actions here... there's no need to invoke a complicated government conspiracy when a good old fashioned data mining and profiteering scheme is adequate explanation.

I'm confused. They mentioned "low uptake". Wouldn't this be on by default? If was not on by default (which it should have been), of course there is a low uptake. I assume users assumed it was on already. I don't use this app so I have no idea how this worked.
