I used Safari for some online banking right before I read this :/ How’s the Mini 6 situation - heard that 15.6 was making it need a reboot before it would charge? Fixed in 15.6.1?

Oddly the description in the update tab doesn’t mention a security update.

And if our devices are so old that they can't reach those OS versions, we're supposed to just not use them anymore, right? It sounds like a sarcastic question, but is that actually, in the grand scheme of security, what we're supposed to be doing?
Not using Safari in this case would be the fix. This is why it was important for Apple to allow default browsers to be changed.

Big Sur won't update for me. Doesn't even show an update is available. And when I try Check for Updates, it just spins and spins and Nada! Anyone else?

Which guide do you suggest for this project? Is there anything not working?
Ubuntu is simple (doesn’t necessarily mean easy but the steps are straightforward) to install on an old Mac. I also have an old Mini with it (it might be Linux Mint right now — I’ve tried a few flavors for fun). I also increased the RAM and installed a SSD drive to speed things up. Everything works as expected - Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, graphics, etc. For a while I was using it as a Minecraft server.

On a computer download an Ubuntu image, flash it to a USB drive, boot the Mac to the USB drive, and install.

Here’s an older guide that should still work: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbumtuOnMacMini

As for making it look like macOS, I haven’t done that but there appear to be some guides online.

What's the betting this is to do with the WhatsApp scams that have been going on of late getting people to click on links within the message that take you to a web page that opens up in Safari and then boom, the webkit flaw becomes exploited.

If you haven't updated already, it's important to do so at the earliest opportunity. The latest critical updates are as follows:

iOS 15.6.1
iPadOS 15.6.1
macOS Monterey 12.5.1
Safari 15.6.1 for macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina

To update your iPhone or iPad, head to Settings -> General -> Software Update. To update your Mac, open System Preferences and select the Software Update preference pane.

Looks like Safari in iOS 14 is not affected by this security flaw because once again Apple didn't provide any update for iOS 14 users and hasn't done so since October 2021. That, or Apple doesn't care about the security of iOS 14 users.

I'm on Monterey 3.1 and don't get an update either

Edit: ah got it now, did my first reboot for months and then it appeared!

You knew perfectly well when you bought your device that software updates are only provided for so long. It's not a new thing.
No you don't. Does Apple provide the exact support timeline of their devices? Nope. You're just assuming based on previous models. Apple never provide exact software support timeline for any of their devices.

Thanks. I was thinking of installing ESX but the LTS support of Ubuntu is attractive, less frequent custom installs.

Funny. This is an actual headline on Fox News and a secondary headline on CNN, yet MacRumors has it listed three stores down like it’s nothing. I’m not sure if it’s a large issue or if MacRumors is simply downplaying it.

I have Catalina and no Software update on system preferences yet. Safari is still showing 15.6 here.

If one is still using 14.8.1 on some devices - purposely, is there a way to update or confirm a Safari fix, or is this just apples way to get people to move to 15.x for those devices. I found on my iPhone 8 Plus - yes, still using it daily, 15.x was NOT a positive upgrade.
