As an AAPL shareholder, I applaud their drive to maximize profits....but as an Apple user I find it ridiculous they didn't make the height adjustable stand the "standard" that comes with the monitor instead of the ****ty "tilt" stand. I mean c'mon that's a $1,500 27" monitor that won't connect with anything but a modern day Mac without some sort of TB to whatever adapter. They should have also added at least the latest version DP or HDMI input, so folks in the Windows world can hook up to it natively.

Meh. Didn’t even see the DP/HDMI stuff. Every time, they release something with a lot of potential and then end up with their foot in their mouth.

Disappointing they’re limiting the uses of another product. Not even new Animojis I’ve never used ever announced! Golly!

... and that adds 25% / $400 to the price of the monitor. Seems rather ludicrous
Then don't buy it. There are excellent height-adjustable VESA compatible stands/mounts that cost well under $400.

I'm not going to buy this monitor because of the price but I'm also not going to complain about the price or anything about the monitor. It's not for me so I can move on.

Been using Dell displays for 15 or so years and they all had stands where you can adjust height all the way down to the desk, rotate them 90° and press a button to unhook the display from its stand. I expect this to be the norm on anything over 100 dollars.

Honestly, just get a small 4K TV or an ultra wide curved Dell or LG.

So what you're telling me is that the base cost for the monitor is $2000 USD + taxes. I don't think that makes sense for a display that's unsuitable for editing modern video and motion graphics due to low refresh rate.

In a fast changing world where your needs are changing too, this idea that you have to stick with your decision or buy a new product does not seem like a sustainable idea in 2022.

I might be missing out on a visually brilliant display and excellent resolution (which is also good for coding and text in general), but as a developer I rather stick with a Dell display that lets me adjust it to my needs (including turning to portrait mode, which Apple’s display only seems to be able to do on the VESA mount)

Just as I will always go with Logitech mice for shear ergonomic reasons.

Typical Apple.
If you don’t want a VESA mount, just buy the standard mount and place the monitor on something if you want it higher. Like an old Mac mini.

I'm guessing that since I was a Mac user during the acrylic Cinema Display days that had absolutely no way to easily add a VESA mount, this comes as no surprise to me.

I find it amusing a suggested use case is to have two or three of these displays.
Suggested by whom?

What user in their right mind would buy a ~$1600 or, worse, a $2000 monitor that can never be remounted in a different setting?
I guess it depends on the user? I've never remounted any of my monitors, personally. At work, I suppose I would just get a new one.

The wise choice here is buy it with the VESA mount at no extra cost and then mount it to whatever the heck you like.
Unless you prefer one of the stands instead?

Deliberate lock-in. (Stand and cable)
It's a standard cable. And you can get the VESA mount for a standard mount.

Apple wants you to buy 3 different displays instead of one.
Later this year, Apple is having record breaking quarters, again.

I'm skeptical about this. Maybe they're not easily interchangeable by the user and Apple will not support doing so, but I bet it's do-able. From a logistics standpoint, it makes no sense to have 3 different mounting designs for the actual monitor unit. Dollars to donuts, someone will release a universal VESA adapter for this.

People that buy one of these are the best sheepeople out there. You should be able to exchange all these mounts at will. My under $600 HP Z27 displays are on VESA mounts now. The stands they came with are in storage. I could easily switch back. Who at Apple thinks this crap up?

VESA mounts are universal so if you want the flexibility that would be the way to go. Like I've seen someone say maybe a third-party stand will be released using a VESA mount.

The one justification I can see for this position is that the screen could easily get damaged while the stand was being changed. IMO, allowing the Apple Store to change the stand, with a nominal fee, would have been a better alternative.

Where are you finding these inexpensive 5K displays?
Probably talking 4K monitors. I thought the same thing ...damn I could buy three 32 inch 4K monitors for the same price....but we are talking apples to oranges. Not comparable. I'd love a 32 inch 5K monitor not 27 inch but we are most likely looking at close to 3000 dollars or maybe more based on Apple's pricing strategy...if it ever happens.
