After upgrading to Panther I started seeing a very noticeable performance problem that only occurred after having a second user log in.

After some searching I traced the problem to the All in One driver for my PSC 1210 printer/scanner/copier. The performance issue was due to thousands of USB errors being written to the system log. Removing the HP driver stack and installing Apples printer only driver got me printing again but no dice on the scanner driver.

Has anyone else found something that works?

HP is still working the bugs out. If you asked them before Panther was released, they basically said, we don’t know because Panther is not out yet. They have a large list of products that they said if it would or would not be Panther compatible. Almost off them required new software, and back in October they said look for new software in the next few weeks. Well, guess what, no new software so all you can do is keep pressuring them to release something.

My mom has that printer, and I agree the software is buggy. A folder constantly pops in and out of the dock, in the applications section. It appears for only a split second, so I can't trace it. Annoys me to death.

It was actually working for me until the first time I used fast user switching to log my wife in. Apparently the driver tries to load for each user and doesn't play nice when it does so.

I've been using HP printers for many years but now that I'm Winders free I may have to rethink my options.

I was hoping that someone found a way to get to the scanner using something other than the OEM driver.
