Public wifi connection problem w/iPhone 4S but not 4

Since installing iOS6 on our phones my iPhone 4S has had an intermittent problem logging onto some public WiFi sites (e.g., Starbucks) that my wife's iPhone 4 instantly logs onto. Turning my phone off and on solves the problem.

Has anyone else encountered this issue with the 4S? Is there a fix?
