I wonder if 138 is a double-count of 69 bpm. What were the results on either side of the 138 instance?

My heart rate is usually in the ~170s during my jogs. This is shown in both the Workout app and also just with the heart rate readings taken every 10min outside of a Workout app during a jog. I typically use Runmeter app and a Bluetooth chest heart rate strap but still wear the Apple Watch to both corroborate heart rate data as well as get credit for exercise in the Activity app.

Good idea. This was my worst night yet.

You could have a cardia arrythmia, such as paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. But chances are you'd know that by now because it also would have happened while you were awake. You could be having a nightmare or even a really good erotic dream. It could be panic from sleep apnea. Or it could just be a glitch. Assuming you have no other medical problems, don't sweat it. Anything serious would be manifesting in other symptoms than the occasional accelerated heart rate.

I do have some great erotic dreams - and some pretty scary nightmares but I keep getting back to this same 138 pulse rate!

I've hit 138 a number of times this year. I've maxed out at 140.
(I recharge my watch 8.15pm -10.00pm) and dont exercise enough.

Since September '15 I have had 12983 readings and my average 'Heart rate' is 82.62 ave

I think average is 'quite' important. Although it depends how much you exercise of course.

I have always had a high heart rate, I'm okay, although I do advocate the free 6 month _full_ blood test.

hope this helps

If your pulse is only high when asleep, there's a greater chance the problem is a technical one with the watch. Trying a different brand of sleep monitor would confirm if there's a problem. But why take chances with your health? Your doctor could easily test you with a real heart monitor.

I died.

No seriously, I stopped wearing the watch while I was sleeping. It’s a series 0 and the battery struggles to last a day.

But last night I did leave it on and guess what?

Just out of interest - has anyone ever got an AW heart rate reading of more than 138?

Haha, funny you should ask. I've had my Apple Watch 3 GPS for 3 weeks today. I use Autosleep and HeartWatch every day and every night. My heart rate and everything has been normal. I rarely dream and rarely have nightmares - a handful in the last 10 years that I know about.

December 6 I went to bed alone because my wife had to study. All I know is I woke up at 11 knowing I had one HELL of a nightmare, like, I could feel my heart hurting and I knew it was a crazy insane nightmare... looked down and my Apple Watch was blowing up with "We noticed your heart rate was greater than 120 bpm" notices. Thought that was weird... went back to bed and forgot about it - couldn't remember anything about the nightmare other than my heart hurting and body feeling like I had been through something energy intensive.

Next day, I checked out the heart rate monitor and :

Had it not been for the Apple Watch I would have totally forgotten about this. Wonder how many times this has happened? Well,in the 3 weeks I've only had one so far. :)

I'm 32 years old, male - and I'm an "incredibly" light sleeper. I have to have a fan on or small noises wake me up.

According to this -- it was a night terror.

https://health.usnews.com/health-news/articles/2013/01/30/how-to-identify-and-manage-nightmares

"First, recognize that nightmares are not night terrors. The latter, also known as sleep terrors, happen earlier in sleep, during a non-rapid eye movement (REM) stage. Typically, you'd wake up in the first 90 minutes of sleep, perhaps panicked and yelling, with a much fuzzier memory of the dream than you'd have after a nightmare. Your heart rate may jump to 180 beats per minute during night terrors, says Tore Nielsen, director of the Dream and Nightmare Laboratory and a psychiatry professor at the University of Montreal. He adds that folks with night terrors can be destructive when they wake up—by fighting or jumping from windows—and yet, they often don't remember the episode later."

I'm having a sleep study done in a few weeks to check for sleep apnea. My wife tells me that sometimes I snore badly, and that I occasionally stop breathing to the point where she nudges me to breathe again.

Funny, I don't remember having these problems while I was single and living alone. ;)

It might be worth your time to get checked out. For now, you can also try an app to record the sounds you make overnight. I've sometimes used Sleep Cycle, which has been updated to monitor sound along with movement. It doesn't have an AW app, so you'd use the phone.

My story with hubbie exactly! hope u don’t need 4 surgeries to open up and rearrange ur throat and jaws like he did.
