What would you guys recommend if I need a Macbook Pro mid September AT THE LATEST? Any chance the new models will be released before then or am I seriously gonna end up buying a Macbook Pro only for them to release a new version the month after?

Quite possibly you'll buy one for a new one to be out in a month, that is looking quite likely but the mbp upgrade cycle is all over the place so who knows. If they go Kabylake it may be fairly soon to update processors if they wait for canonlake it may be next year before relevant chips are available.
if you can afford it get it now and enjoy it for the next six months, six months of increased productivity is worth more than a minor cpu update in 6 months time.
Also, there was an article a few months ago stating that Apple planned on using a longer-lasting battery, but failed in its testing. So they used an older battery design. There's a chance they could include this in their 2017 model.
This is absolutely one of the best reasons to wait if you can. They will almost certainly have the battery layered in there like a cake to take up all available space next time around and that's a tangible and highly beneficial upgrade for sure.

True, but I don't want to miss out on increased battery life, as a student that is the most important thing for me there. There might also be an update to the keyboard, perhaps an update to the screen and/or the touch bar if I go that route. I have heard there might even be a price drop.. Arghh

Ther may be a small price drop I expect nothing else but CPUs to change to be honest, an extra hour or two on a battery that lasts 10 hours already also seems not worth waiting for to me, but mileage there will differ depending on your usage.
Screens won't change Apple don't want to use 4K (a- it's pointless in a screen that size and b- it's a massive battery drain OLED is a way off yet they will have enough trouble supplying themm for limited iPhones this year and I can't see them bothering to change until oled is an option) and they already have just about the best colour gamut and brightness available on a laptop that won't change. the keyboard has split opinion but I can't see it changing now it's in all their retina machines.
It really depends how well your current machine suits your needs if you are struggling with it then it is probably worth upgrading now. If it's working fine for your current usage then by all means waiting is your best option.

Totally agree. Get a computer when you need it. Depending on person, productivity is more valuable than a small bump in performance. My new MBP has made a world of difference in productivity, albeit coming from an '09 and a couple PC's. I don't think I would make that case with a '14 or '15.

That being said, it's totally possible that a new iteration will be available in October/November. Although it will likely be "better", it's probably not groundbreaking stuff. I've played the waiting game for particular features, and it paid off for me with the new MBP. But that type of cycle only happens every 3 or 4 years. It would annoy me if I got a new MBP and a new refresh came out a month later. If you're really concerned about that, borrow a computer, use an iPad you already have, buy a cheap used one to tide you over for a couple months. It depends on what you have access to and how much you really care about having the newest. These cycles are fairly predictable now, especially with leaks constantly coming out.
Get what you need, when you need it. Don't worry too much. There is always something better coming in theory and reality, but who cares if you need it. I always tell people who say they need a computer to wait as long as they can, but that timeframe is individual.
