Hello all,

I'm currently at the end of my contract on my 5C and looking to upgrade around Christmas. I'm in a family plan with two brothers on Next and my parents have dumb phones. I'm still under the "old", contract. Now I have a couple questions.

I'm almost positive that my "line service" charge will increase to $35/$40 on my plan if I choose to sign a contract and buy the phone at a subsidized price. I will have to call AT&T to confirm. If that's the case, I plan on getting the 6S on Next. I still have to run the numbers. But, I have the option to buy a year old iPhone 6 for $200. This would allow me to have cheaper line access and the subsidized price. So, do you guys think this would be worth it to kind of "place hold" until the 7 comes out? Is the 6s that much better than the 6 that would warrant the large difference in monthly payments? The phone is from Verizon (will be unlocked), but are they all universal now? I thought I remember them saying you can use any phone?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts. This forum has been very helpful.

Rumors have it that the 7 is a lukewarm refresh

Jump to the 7S and save your money I say

You could also just let your monthly line fees drop to $25 and just keep your 5C (or buy a sim free iPhone).

Better and what is or isn't warranted are highly subjective regardless of topic. You can't just poll others to answer such questions. People have differing situations, needs, wants, preferences. priorities, budgets, etc. You have to decide based on your preferences and priorities.

FWIW, given the rate of progression of phone tech and OS's I always buy the latest model when upgrading. My normal upgrade interval would take place when the 7 was released but if I was buying right now I'd get a 6s. Further, I don't subsidize or use one of the carrier plans and just purchase outright so my feedback isn't necessarily going to be relevant to you.

If you're constrained by budget and want to wait for the 7 then that could definitely lead to a different solution for you. It's really your requirements and not so much the device itself that will drive the decision. Carefully consider your requirements and then determine which devices would work for you versus relying solely on the device to justify itself.

You can get a 6 for $200? If I read that correctly then absolutely go that route. The 6 is still a very solid choice and that's a smoking price.

Thanks for the replies. I'm buying the 6 for $200, because I think it'd be stupid not to haha. I'll just sell it unlocked if I don't like it. I realized this right after I made the post, so probably an unnecessary topic.
