I called Verizon and asked if the gray or silver iPhone 6–16 would be available to purchase at their stores. I was told that the only phones the Verizon stores would be receiving are the pre-ordered ones.
Has anyone heard anything different?

ouch...ppl are also saying if you pre-ordered, you need to cancel the order 48 hours in advance before walking up and buying one rather than waiting for the pre-ordered one. Not sure of the validity though.

I was told yesterday at a Verizon in the Denver area they are already receiving shipments of both sized phones for in store purchase. He knows I want a 64gb 6+ and he said I should be ok if I got there early. He also indicated all pre ordered phones were accounted for already.

I did not pre order but he was bringing up their supply information without my even asking.

Thanks...trying to decide if I should take tomorrow off and see if I can pick one up at the store rather than wait a month for my pre-order.

If you want to cancel your preorder, do it asap since it might take a while to get the notice through the system. Cancelled mine a couple days ago. Hoping getting to a verizon store an hour or two before opening works out

Not sure I want to chance canceling it early and then not being able to pick one up. I'd be looking at Nov/Dec then.

Ya, I have read elsewhere, they can cancel the preorder on the spot, in the store. Hope that's true, because I have a 10/14 date on the 6, BUT also plan on cashing in on that iPhone4 trade in deal. Would be great if the store had them(they should, and can cancel the pre-order without any issue).

When I got the 5s last year I ordered it early in the morning that Friday. Then after work I called my local Verizon store to see if they had any in stock at all. Turned out that they did, and had enough to replace both our 5s' (me and my wife's) so I headed there.

On the way there I called up Verizon to see about cancelling my order I placed that morning to get my upgrade eligibility restored, and the Verizon rep stayed on the phone with me until I got to the store, got hooked up with a rep there in the store and had two iPhone 5s' sitting in front of me...then I told the rep on the phone to go ahead and cancel my order and it instantly restored my upgrade eligibility. Walked out 20 minutes later with both phones activated and was on my way home.

Moral of the story....they can restore your eligibility instantly if they want.

I just spoke with a local verizon corporate store and they said they have a good amount of each model for non pre-order customers. I plan on getting to the store around 2am.

I am trying to get confirmation from my store. I pre-ordered a 6+ 64 GB gold phone and the expected ship date is 10/7. I really don't want to wait almost 3 weeks to get my phone because my 5 is on its last legs, basically it has to stay plugged in or it doesn't work. :(

I will not do it if I find out I have to cancel first, but if I can go there and they can cancel it AND I could be at least relatively certain I'll have one I would do it in a heartbeat. Decisions decisions.......

Are they good with canceling pre-order if they end up do having what you want? I'm stuck at work for the next 6 hours or I'd head over and see.

And that hinges on:
1) the required time of cancellation prior to buying in store (some claim it has to be 48hrs)
2) the availability of product at the store.

I just...can't imagine how that'd be the case. I am not saying it isn't, but, as they all use the same internal order system. Someone should be able to cancel and reinstate upgrade immediately. Read on a verizon community post that they can cancel in-store as long as the pre-order has not shipped.
2) the availability of product at the store.
Depends on what you are looking for, but 6's seem to be a good bet for tomorrow and carriers. 6+'s may be scant and require luck.

I'm sure it's a gimmick to get people to pre-order phones...but they will definitely carry extras for walk-ins, but I would expect most to be gone by 3-4PM on release date
