    Hey guys,

I just bought a 17 inch imac G5 stock with 80 gb hd and combo drive 55 bucks from one of my buddies. I have no clue why i bought it i just figured it would be a decent machine for web surfing synching my iphone and downloading apps. and using it to store music on itunes.

Bad part is when i plug it up it doesn't boot up at all. I already changed the ram and upgraded to 1 gig of ram thinking it could be that but after research i think it may be the power supply..

is it even worth it to fix the sucker ?

A lot depends on the cost of the fix. Running Leopard, the G5 iMac is still a more than decent desktop computer. If you can live without SL or "intel only" apps, it's very nice. So, you have to do the value equation.

Apple's support website has the procedure for user diagnosis of power supply vs. logic board failure, essentially opening up the back, and pressing the reset button under the center fan and watching the status of the LED's on the logic board.

Replacing a power supply is cake, if you're luck, but they seem to be pricey on the resale market. Lucky for you, your initial investment in the computer is pretty low.

My dad has a 20 inch g5 imac with isight camera. Never had issues with it. When booting it fails to see the hd some times. But that's a easy fix. Hold down the option key and then select the hd and it boots. Not sure why the flaw but most are like that. But the screen is still bright and we use it almost everyday. So a shame yours is broken but good price. I'd get an estimate anyway it's worth cuz its a good price and worth it.

But before you do maybe it's not the whole supply just the cord or a bad outlet.

oh ok ... just googled and saw that replacement guide for the power supply. Im a keep my fingers crossed when i do the test and hope it's just the power supply. The actual power supply is fairly cheap to purchase.

After doing numerous tests on it's seems like it's the logic board

    I was so excited too

logic boards turn up at ebay once in a while , keep it ,if its not in the way and wait for one to turn up .....or maybe a imac with a broken screen , then make one out of two :)
