I just want the GPS module TBH to see where I am when I'm in a rural place

Anyways, can I turn the cellular off so that I do not see any cellular symbol in the menu bar, or will there always be a cellular signal icon there even when I don't use it?

If you turn off cellular data in settings, you will eliminate the service bars and lte.

Sure, you can turn off your cellular data and still get GPS, but apparently maps and other apps that rely on the coordinates may not work. You can turn it off and test it where you are.

Maps and other apps will still get position data from the GPS but if the map data is not locally downloaded or cached the map itself cannot be displayed.

So to be clear, the LTE bars or circles or whatever it is these days will not even be displayed, only my clock and wifi signal correct? The LTE bars will be nonexistent and will not remind me that I have an iPad with cellular right?

So will Apple Maps be able to tell me where in the U.S. I am (without any title places), or do I need to do something special to Apple Maps to download it in my storage?

I don't use Apple Maps but this article talks about offline (no cellular available) use -

I use Maps.Me and download maps for areas/states that I want to use when offline (or just don't want to use cellular data).

I just tested it myself, when you turn off cellular data, the bars and lte disappear.
