Grabbed the base 2.8 quad with the better 5870 graphics card. list is

2699 plus 7 percent tax. total 2887.93.

I had about 387 in discounts so net is 2500. I will run it with a pair of patriot inferno 200gb ssd's and a pair of caviar black re4 2gb hdds. This should be leaps and bounds above my 2.66 dual core esata hack mc mini or my 3.06 dual core iMac.
claims to arrive no later then the 15th.

Good going philipma1957. I've followed your posts over on 123macmini.com for some time. As the owner of a late or mid or whatever mini 2.66GHz the latest unibody mini proved to me that Apple's philosophy and direction for the mini are very different from what I was hoping for.

I decided to go all the way and purchase the "other" non-shiny-screen Apple desktop. My MP quad 3.2 with the big video card arrived last week. I've been extremely happy with it. All those WD 1TB Black drives that used to be in OWC external cases are now happily living in the MP.

Next week it's OWC memory time. . .

That sounds like a great setup, what will it primarily be used for?

I have large video and audio collections. my needs are more for data management of multiple hdds and fast cloning then fast processing.. although I will now do more handbrake. I mod a lot of mac minis but apple has done a complete redesign of the mini and it has become a dead end for my needs. The macbook pro and iMac both have bad disk connectivity in terms of speed and multiple hdd use.
So it is a macpro or an xserve. the Macpro is the better deal for me. for cloning alone..

I will be able to cut down my 2tb clones time from 15 to 5 hours. The best clone speed I could do with the minis With fw800 was 70 to 80mb/s. now the large 2tb raid0's will clone close to 180mb/s
